Applications Engineer

Location: Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge, ON
Salary: $60,000–$85,000 per year, depending on experience
Work Arrangement: On-site during training, with a hybrid option available afterward

About the Role

We are seeking an Applications Engineer for a day shift to provide technical and commercial support for industrial environmental and process engineering solutions. This role involves working closely with sales teams, customers, suppliers, and internal engineering departments to develop technical solutions, prepare proposals, review specifications, and support projects from the initial inquiry through the design and quotation stages.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Biological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

- Review customer inquiries and technical requirements to develop appropriate engineering solutions.
- Work closely with regional sales managers and sales representatives across Canada and the United States to provide technical support.
- Prepare budgetary proposals, quotations, cost estimates, and supporting technical documentation.
- Review customer specifications, tender documents, and contractual requirements to determine project scope and technical compliance.
- Support system design activities, including component selection, process calculations, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams, purchasing departments, and suppliers to develop accurate project estimates.
- Assist with engineering submittals, including P&IDs;, equipment specifications, and process design calculations.
- Support environmental approval processes by coordinating air dispersion modelling and communicating with relevant regulatory authorities.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of standard design procedures, costing tools, templates, and internal workflows.




- Assist with new product development, special engineering projects, site assessments, and technical data analysis.
- Collaborate with sales, engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure solutions meet customer requirements, performance expectations, and project budgets.

Qualifications

- University degree in Biological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, analyze requirements, and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with sales, engineering, customers, and suppliers.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a changing environment.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an asset:

- Air emissions control and environmental engineering.
- Odour control systems and industrial air treatment.
- HVAC systems, fluid systems, or process engineering.
- Dry scrubbers, activated carbon media, or related air treatment technologies.
- Municipal tenders, technical bids, and OEM equipment projects.
- Process calculations, equipment selection, costing, and technical proposal development.
- Environmental approvals, air dispersion modelling, or regulatory compliance.
