At RIMEX, we operate under one simple premise: provide our customers with the best products and services, period. Our teams combine engineering, manufacturing, technology, and field experience to deliver dependable solutions for demanding industrial environments. We are hiring a Database Developer to join our Langley team and contribute to the continued development, reliability, and evolution of the TyreSense product line. # Position Summary The Database Developer designs, develops, tests, documents, deploys, and supports the databases and data logic behind the TyreSense ecosystem. The role works across data models, T-SQL code, query performance, application data access, migrations, reporting data, and data protection. The successful candidate will translate operational and product requirements into reliable, well-performing, and maintainable database solutions while working closely with software, DevOps, QA, support, product, data, and IT stakeholders. This is a hands-on role for someone who can independently analyze problems and develop high-level designs, work with large and growing datasets, protect data integrity, and help mature database engineering practices without losing sight of customer and operational needs. # Principal Duties and Responsibilities ## 1. Database Design and Development
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain relational databases that support TyreSense applications, services, and reporting.
- Write clear, efficient, and maintainable T-SQL, including stored procedures, functions, views, triggers where appropriate, and set-based logic.
- Design normalized data models, keys, constraints, and indexes that protect data integrity and support application needs.
- Translate approved requirements and workflows into practical data designs, schema changes, and documented data definitions.
- Make sound recommendations on when to build new database logic and when to reuse or improve existing code. ## 2. Performance, Scalability, and Query Optimization
- Analyze and tune queries, stored procedures, and indexes using execution plans, wait statistics, and other evidence rather than assumption.
- Design for high-volume, time-series, and historical data, including partitioning, archiving, and retention approaches where appropriate.
- Identify and resolve blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries, and resource bottlenecks in collaboration with software and IT teams.
- Plan database designs that scale across a wide range of fleet sizes and deployment environments.
- Measure and confirm the impact of performance changes before and after release. ## 3. Application Data Access and Integration
- Work closely with software developers on data access using C#, .
NET, and Entity Framework, including efficient querying and transaction handling.
- Review ORM-generated queries and recommend improvements to application data access patterns.
- Support data needs for APIs, services, and approved integrations with customer, fleet, asset, reporting, and internal systems.
- Define clear data contracts and protect backward compatibility when schemas change.
- Contribute C# and .
NET code where database-related application changes are required. ## 4. Data Migration, Versioning, and Releases
- Develop and maintain scripted, repeatable, and version-controlled database changes and migrations.
- Plan, test, and support data migrations and upgrades between product versions, including validation and rollback planning.
- Use approved source control, peer review, and release practices for all database code and schema changes.
- Support continuous integration and automated deployment of database changes where practical.
- Prepare clear release notes and deployment steps for database changes across supported environments. ## 5. Data Quality, Reporting, and Analytics Support
- Investigate data-quality, synchronization, history, and consistency issues using reproducible analysis.
- Build reliable, well-defined datasets, views, and queries that support reporting, dashboards, and analytics.
- Work with data, BI, and product stakeholders to define data meaning, business rules, and reporting requirements.
- Add validation checks and controls that prevent recurring data issues. ## 6. Database Operations and Reliability
- Support database health across cloud-hosted, customer-hosted, and private deployment models without building customer-specific assumptions into core design.
- Work with IT on backup awareness, recovery testing, maintenance plans, monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Assist with production issue investigation, root-cause analysis, hotfix validation, and post-release monitoring.
- Create helpful diagnostics, health checks, and troubleshooting information for support and infrastructure teams. ## 7. Database Security and Data Protection
- Apply least privilege, role-based access, and secure coding practices to database design and code.
- Prevent SQL injection and other data risks through parameterized access, input validation, and safe dynamic SQL practices.
- Do not place passwords, keys, certificates, or production connection details in source code or unsecured scripts.
- Follow approved practices for production data access, masking, retention, auditing, and environment separation.
- Report suspected vulnerabilities, exposed credentials, unauthorized access, or unexpected data exposure immediately and support remediation. ## 8. Collaboration and Stakeholder Support
- Work with software, DevOps, QA, support, product, data, and IT stakeholders to clarify needs, priorities, and acceptance criteria.
- Take part in backlog refinement, estimation, design reviews, code reviews, sprint or release planning, and retrospectives.
- Explain database options, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide technical input without making unapproved customer commitments, architecture decisions, or release promises. ## 9. Documentation and Knowledge Transfer
- Maintain accurate data models, data dictionaries, schema documentation, deployment notes, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Keep database code, scripts, and documentation in approved RIMEX systems.
- Share knowledge through walkthroughs, peer reviews, and practical support for other team members.
- Reduce dependence on individual knowledge by documenting repeatable processes, known issues, and recovery steps. ## 10. Continuous Improvement and Responsible AI Use # Qualifications and Core Competencies
- Minimum five years of professional experience developing and supporting production database applications; equivalent depth of practical experience may be considered.
- Strong SQL and T-SQL skills with a solid understanding of relational database design concepts.
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Management Studio.
- Proven experience with query optimization, indexing strategy, execution plan analysis, and performance tuning.
- Experience with C#, .
NET, and Entity Framework.
- Experience with source control, peer review, scripted database changes, and structured release practices.
- Working knowledge of database security, access control, secrets handling, and secure development practices.

- Experience with data migrations, version upgrades, SSIS, or comparable ETL tooling is an asset.
- Experience with Power BI, SSRS, or other reporting and analytics tools is an asset.
- Experience with Azure SQL or comparable cloud data services, Windows Server, IIS, or hybrid deployment environments is an asset.
- Experience with industrial, IoT, telemetry, fleet, asset-management, manufacturing, or safety-related applications is an asset.
- Experience using GitHub Copilot or another AI-assisted development tool is preferred, provided it is used within approved security and data-governance requirements.
- Post-secondary education in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field is preferred; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- Clear spoken and written English communication skills.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Strong attention to data integrity, evidence-based analysis, secure design, testing discipline, and clear technical documentation.
