About the Role

Our client, a dynamic architectural firm with a strong presence in retail design, is looking for a Lead Retail Architect to join their team in Kimberley, Northern Cape . This role is responsible for leading the design and development of cutting-edge retail spaces, from standalone stores to complex shopping center designs. You will work closely with clients, brand strategists, and construction teams to create engaging and functional environments that enhance the customer experience and meet business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for aesthetics, a deep understanding of retail trends, and proven experience in managing retail design projects from concept to execution.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the architectural design process for a variety of retail projects, including flagship stores, pop-ups, and mall spaces.
- Develop concept designs, space plans, and detailed construction documents that align with brand identity and retail strategy.
- Collaborate with marketing teams, visual merchandisers, and clients to understand brand requirements and customer flow.
- Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and compliant with all relevant building codes and accessibility standards in Kimberley .
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and consultant coordination for retail design projects.
- Oversee the selection of materials, finishes, and lighting to create the desired retail atmosphere.
- Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for new retail developments.




- Mentor junior architects and designers within the retail studio.
- Stay informed about the latest trends in retail design, customer experience, and sustainable retail practices.

Requirements

- Master's degree in Architecture.
- Professional registration with SAIA.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in architectural practice, with a significant specialization in retail design and development.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering innovative retail projects.
- Proficiency in architectural design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and 3D visualization tools.
- Strong understanding of retail operations, customer psychology, and brand engagement strategies.
- Excellent client management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work effectively under pressure.
- Experience in working with national and international retail brands is advantageous.
