About the Role

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development and implementation of data science strategies and projects focused on mining operations, maintenance, safety, and exploration.
- Design, build, and deploy advanced machine learning models (e.g., predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, optimization algorithms) using large, complex datasets.
- Oversee the entire data science lifecycle, from data acquisition and cleaning to model development, validation, and deployment.
- Manage and mentor a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, geologists, and operations managers, to identify business needs and translate them into data science solutions.
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and infrastructure for analytical workloads.




- Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through virtual presentations and reports.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, and evaluate their applicability to the mining industry.
- Ensure the ethical and responsible use of data and promote data governance best practices.

Requirements

- A Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in data science and machine learning, with at least 3 years in a leadership or team management role.
- Proven experience applying data science techniques to solve complex problems in industrial or operational environments, preferably mining.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, and proficiency with data science libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Strong experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and database management (SQL, NoSQL).
- Excellent understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques.
- Robust leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
