Duration: November 23rd, 2026- October 31st, 2027 (Chance of Extension)
Location: Toronto/Hybrid – 2-3 days in office
Role Mandate
We're seeking a Content Designer to join the XD Foundation Team, supporting the development and maintenance of BMO's content management system used to create and manage content across the bank's digital channels. This role is a backfill for an internal promotion and offers the chance to work within a collaborative, cross-functional team of designers, developers, and QA specialists. Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Developers and Designers to create CMS modules and ongoing improvements to the Contentful platform for faster content authoring with fewer defects.
- Empower Content Authors by strengthening their CMS skills, promoting authoring best practices and championing improvements to the Contentful platform.
- Enable the Experience Design team to create scalable, reusable experiences by bringing CMS strategy into the design process early. Align module decisions, governance and delivery requirements across teams.
- Bring CMS expertise into the design process to support module reuse, governance and authoring requirements.
- Monitor the Help Desk Teams channel to triage and troubleshoot questions, share documented best practices, and elevate issues.
- Create and update CMS documentation so guidance remains clear, accurate and useful.
- Onboard new Content Authors, DMs, Content Designers and Product Designers to the CMS.
- Identify opportunities to improve the CMS through proactive consultation with Content Authors, Experience Design (XD) and Architecture teams.
- Participate in a growing Content Design practice, working with larger groups to set new benchmarks for content at BMO.
Qualifications
- Post‑secondary education in Communications, Journalism, UX Design or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4-7 years of professional experience as a Content Designer or in a UX-adjacent field.
- Content management systems proficiency – experience with Contentful preferred but not required.
- Technical web literacy preferred – comfortable reading and interpreting HTML to diagnose and resolve basic content and formatting issues on web pages, in partnership with technical teams.
- Familiarity with accessibility requirements and related content best practices.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to distill technical information for a non-technical audience.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail – able to catch inconsistencies with page implementation.
- Experience with cross functional workshop planning and participation.
