Residents work with the on-call psychiatrist at this community hospital serving Durham Region. The psychiatrist remains the most responsible physician throughout each shift. Duties include emergency department consultations, consult-liaison coverage, and clinical support for admitted psychiatric patients across 40 inpatient psychiatry beds.
Key Responsibilities: Complete consultations for the emergency department
Provide consult-liaison coverage during assigned shifts
Support clinical issues involving admitted psychiatric patients
Work under on-site psychiatrist supervision
Participate in Saturday or Sunday on-call shifts
Requirements: Meet Ontario Resident Provisional Registration Program requirements
Meet residency training program minimum requirements
Complete PGY1 Internal Medicine and emergency rotations
Complete adult general psychiatry with full on-call duties
Complete geriatric and child psychiatry rotations
Residents bring completed psychiatry training and emergency experience to supervised on-call coverage at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
