About the Client
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver to support an elderly gentleman with Alzheimer's disease who lives in Angus, just outside of Barrie. He values his independence and tries to manage tasks on his own, though he's experienced significant decline over the past year. He has a structured routine with friends who take him out for coffee daily around noon, and family members provide evening care and weekend support. He enjoys a simple breakfast of a toasted bagel with jam and coffee, which he partially prepares himself the night before.
Responsibilities
Provide morning assistance with dressing, as some days he struggles with clothing or becomes confused about whether items are on correctly. Prepare his breakfast consisting of a toasted bagel with jam and coffee (water boiling and milk addition required, as he preps the coffee cup in advance). Ensure he takes his morning medications as prescribed. Provide memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed due to his Alzheimer's diagnosis. Monitor his morning routine, which varies as he may wake anywhere between 8:00 and 10:00 AM, though he prefers to be up by 9:00 AM. Assist with morning washing (not showering, as bathing occurs in the evening). Remain with him until friends arrive for his daily coffee outing around noon.
What We're Looking For
A calm and patient caregiver with experience supporting individuals with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Someone who can provide gentle prompting and redirection without causing stress or agitation. Experience with personal care assistance including dressing support. Ability to work independently and take initiative while respecting the client's desire for independence. Reliable and punctual, as this is temporary coverage while family is away on holiday.
English-speaking caregiver who communicates clearly. Understanding that cognitive abilities fluctuate day to day and patience with repetitive questions or confusion.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, November 9th through 13th, 2026. Daily shifts from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM (4 hours). This is short-term, temporary care coverage while the primary family caregiver is away on holiday.

Additional Considerations
The client requires a calm and patient caregiver with experience supporting individuals with Alzheimer's disease. Morning routine assistance includes helping with dressing (some days he struggles with orientation and needs reassurance), preparing a simple breakfast (toasted bagel with jam and coffee - he preps the coffee cup in advance), and ensuring medication is taken. He maintains some independence and should be encouraged to do what he can. He sleeps in the basement and his clothes are laid out each night on a chair in his room. He washes himself in the mornings but does not shower then. Friends pick him up around noon daily for coffee outings. This is respite care while the family member is away on holiday.
