Job Overview

The ideal candidate will have previous experience cutting upholstery fabrics for custom furniture, including sofas, chairs, sectionals, ottomans, and cushions. This role requires strong knowledge of different upholstery materials, accurate measurements, pattern matching, and the ability to cut custom furniture pieces without relying solely on pre-existing patterns or templates.

The successful candidate must have excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Measure, lay out, and cut upholstery fabrics for sofas, chairs, sectionals, ottomans, cushions, and other upholstered furniture.
- Follow existing cutting patterns and create cutting layouts when required.
- Cut custom and one-of-a-kind furniture pieces without relying on existing patterns or templates.
- Review furniture specifications, production orders, dimensions, and fabric requirements to determine accurate measurements and cutting methods.
- Understand fabric characteristics, including direction, nap, repeats, stretch, elasticity, and potential fraying.
- Properly match stripes, plaids, prints, and patterned fabrics.
- Plan fabric layouts to ensure accurate pattern placement and alignment on finished furniture.




- Identify fabric defects, flaws, or quality concerns before cutting.
- Maximize fabric usage and minimize material waste while maintaining quality standards.
- Accurately label, bundle, organize, and prepare cut fabric pieces for sewing and upholstery.
- Understand how individual fabric pieces relate to the overall construction of upholstered furniture.
- Handle customer-owned materials (COM) carefully, particularly when replacement fabric is limited or expensive.
- Communicate and coordinate with production, sewing, and upholstery teams to resolve cutting-related issues.

Requirements & Qualifications

- Previous upholstery fabric cutting experience is required.
- Experience cutting custom furniture without relying exclusively on established patterns or templates is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of upholstered furniture construction and fabric requirements.
- Excellent knowledge of upholstery fabrics, pattern matching, fabric direction, and application.
- Ability to read and interpret production orders, measurements, and furniture specifications.
- Strong measuring and basic mathematical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and determine appropriate cutting methods.
- Willingness to learn and follow company-specific cutting, tailoring, and quality standards.

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
