KindWay is seeking experienced Client Transfer Professionals to join our Halifax team. We provide time-sensitive, non-emergent medical transportation that requires physical stamina, technical proficiency, and a commitment to dignified client care. If you are a values-aligned experienced transfer attendant or a former first responder accustomed to the operational demands of physical shift work and specialized client transfers, we want you on our team.
Core Responsibilities
- Advanced Client Transfers: Safely execute stand-and-pivot, sheet, rollerboard, and seated slider board techniques, including assisting with bariatric lateral transfers.
- Equipment Operation: Confidently maneuver powered and manual stair chairs, heavy-duty electric and manual wheelchairs, and standard mobility devices across a wide variety of in-home transfer environments.
- Vehicle & Passenger Securement: Operate BraunAbility bariatric side lifts and manual ramps, and strictly apply Q’Straint systems (L-track and slide-and-click) to secure mobility devices within our 2024 Ford Transit and Chrysler Caravan fleet.
- Defensive Driving: Apply the SIPDE process and Smith System to safely navigate traffic, severe weather, and tight hospital drop-off zones.
- Compassionate Communication: Maintain strict PHIA compliance while providing dignified, supportive companionship, applying specific communication strategies for clients experiencing dementia or cognitive decline.
Who We Are Looking For
- Healthcare & First Response Experience as an Asset: While we strictly do not provide medical care, and all of our clients are medically cleared to travel via our specialized transportation service, prior experience in adjacent healthcare, paramedicine, or first response fields is a strong asset for managing complex physical transfers.
- Experienced Handlers:
This is a physically demanding, hands-on role requiring technical equipment experience, not a general community driving position.
- Physically Capable: Able to confidently assist with bearing weight, maneuvering heavy mobility equipment, and navigating complex environmental obstacles (curbs, ramps, tight stairwells).
- Values-Driven: Professionals who embody our HARK core values: Help First, Accountability, Respect, and Kindness.
- Required Credentials: Valid Nova Scotia Class 4-16 driver's license with a clean Driver Abstract, active CPR & First Aid Certification, and a cleared Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Why KindWay? We equip our teams with premium, well-maintained equipment and foster a highly professional environment. You will be doing essential, challenging work where your field experience directly supports community members, often elders, and frees up capacity in the local healthcare system so others can get treated faster.
Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
Application question(s):
- Are you physically capable of safely bearing weight and maneuvering heavy mobility equipment (like occupied stair chairs and wheelchairs) over complex environmental obstacles?
- Do you currently hold a valid Nova Scotia Class 4-16 driver's license, OR are you willing and able to obtain one immediately upon conditional offer?
- Do you currently hold, or can you immediately renew, an active CPR & First Aid Certification?
- Are you able to provide a recent, clean Nova Scotia Driver Abstract upon request?
- Do you have prior experience in dedicated client transfer, first response, paramedicine, or a similar physically demanding support role?
- Do you currently possess a recent transparent Vulnerable Sector Check, or are you willing to complete one as a condition of employment?
