About the Opportunity
Do you love working with children and know how to turn a math lesson into an engaging learning experience?
Think Immersion Education is building a pool of Elementary Math Instructors for teaching opportunities with students in Grades 1–7.
We are looking for a warm, patient, and enthusiastic educator who combines strong math knowledge with the ability to lead a classroom. Our ideal candidate enjoys children’s curiosity, understands that students learn at different paces, and can make mathematical concepts clear, meaningful, and approachable.
This position involves planning and delivering structured lessons, introducing new concepts, guiding student participation, and managing classroom learning—not simply supervising homework or answering individual questions.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently prepare and deliver structured math lessons for students in Grades 1–7, with clear learning objectives and appropriate pacing.
- Lead small-group classes, establish classroom routines, and maintain a positive, organized learning environment.
- Teach foundational and increasingly advanced concepts, including number sense, arithmetic, fractions, decimals, geometry, measurement, and introductory algebra.
- Use visual models, manipulatives, everyday examples, math games, and guided practice to make lessons engaging and accessible.
- Encourage students to ask questions, explain their reasoning, and participate actively in classroom discussions.
- Adapt explanations and activities to different learning needs while keeping the class engaged.
- Support younger learners with patience, clear instructions,
positive reinforcement, and age-appropriate expectations.
- Identify learning gaps, assess student understanding, and adjust follow-up instruction.
- Provide constructive feedback and communicate student progress to the academic team and parents.
- Arrive prepared, maintain teaching records, and collaborate with colleagues to improve lessons.
What We Are Looking For
- A robust interest in teaching children, particularly elementary-aged and younger learners.
- The ability to build rapport with children while maintaining clear expectations and classroom boundaries.
- Strong elementary math knowledge and the ability to explain concepts accurately and confidently through Grade 7.
- Experience working with children in classroom teaching, early childhood education, tutoring, educational assistance, school placements, camps, or after-school programs.
- The ability to plan a complete lesson, lead learning activities, and respond calmly when students become distracted or frustrated.
- Clear communication skills and the flexibility to explain the same concept in different ways.
- Reliability, organization, preparation, and openness to feedback.
- Availability to commit to a consistent teaching schedule when an assignment is offered.
Preferred Education and Experience
We especially welcome applicants with completed or ongoing studies in:
- Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- Elementary Education
- A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), particularly Primary/Junior Education
- Child Development or a related field
The following are also assets:
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) or Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) credentials.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum.
- Experience independently leading small-group or classroom lessons.
- Experience with differentiated instruction, hands-on learning, and positive classroom management.
- Success helping children build confidence and develop a positive attitude toward math.
ECE and Primary/Junior backgrounds are valued for their focus on child development and age-appropriate instruction. Candidates must also demonstrate the mathematical knowledge needed for their teaching assignments.
Formal teaching certification is an asset, but is not required. Teacher candidates, education students, and educators with relevant experience gained in different settings and countries are encouraged to apply.
Who Would Enjoy This Role?
You may be a strong fit if you enjoy preparing a thoughtful lesson, finding creative ways to explain an idea, and seeing a child’s confidence grow. You can be encouraging and playful while keeping students focused, and you care about how children learn as much as what they learn.
Pay: $17.60-$46.74 per hour
