Lead Renovator / Lead Carpenter

Neighbourhood Contractors — Greater Sudbury, Ontario

Pay: $30–$35 per hour, depending on experience

Build great projects. Take pride in your work. Grow with us.

Neighbourhood Contractors is a growing residential renovation and construction business looking for an experienced Lead Renovator / Lead Carpenter to join our team.

We specialize in residential renovations, secondary-unit conversions, multi-unit construction, decks, and fences. With several exciting projects coming up, including secondary-unit conversions and a new multi-unit build, we're looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in doing things right, and can confidently take the lead on site.

We're a small business that believes in good workmanship, treating people well, and creating a positive work environment. You'll work directly with the owner, with the opportunity to take ownership of your work, help train a labourer or apprentice, and grow into a larger leadership role as the business continues to expand.

What You'll Be Doing

- Completing residential renovation and construction work with minimal supervision.
- Taking a scope of work provided by the owner and seeing it through to completion.
- Leading and directing a labourer or apprentice on the job site.
- Working on secondary-unit conversions, multi-unit residential construction, and general renovations.
- Performing a variety of carpentry and finishing work, including framing, drywall, mudding and taping, flooring, cabinetry, trim, and tiling.
- Building decks, fences, and other exterior structures.
- Organizing daily tasks, planning the work, and keeping projects moving efficiently.
- Ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- Identifying potential problems, finding practical solutions,

and communicating with the owner when needed.
- Keeping job sites organized and making efficient use of materials and time.

What We're Looking For

- Experience in residential renovations, carpentry, or residential construction.
- Solid practical skills and an understanding of residential construction methods.
- The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.
- Confidence directing another worker and helping them develop their skills.
- A positive attitude, reliability, and pride in the quality of your work.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to recognize when to ask questions.
- A valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- The ability to communicate clearly and work well as part of a small team.
- A criminal record check is required as a condition of employment.

We're not expecting one person to know absolutely everything. We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in residential construction who is comfortable taking responsibility and willing to keep learning.

Compensation & Wage Scale

$30–$35 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.

We believe in recognizing valuable work and rewarding people as they develop their skills and take on more responsibility.

- $30–$32/hour — Experienced Renovator: Can complete assigned work with limited supervision and demonstrates solid renovation and carpentry skills.

- $32–$35/hour — Lead Renovator: Can independently complete assigned scopes of work, maintain high-quality workmanship, organize daily tasks, and confidently direct a labourer or apprentice.
- Future advancement — Senior Lead / Project Lead: Opportunity for further wage increases as you demonstrate the ability to solve problems independently, coordinate work, and take ownership of larger projects with less day-to-day supervision.

Wage progression will be based on demonstrated skills, workmanship, reliability, leadership, and increasing responsibility.

Why Join Neighbourhood Contractors?

- A positive work environment: Work directly with the owner in a small business where your contribution matters.
- Variety in your work: Take on different projects rather than doing the same thing every day.
- Trust and independence: Have the freedom to organize your work and take ownership of assigned projects.
- Room to grow: Develop your leadership skills and work toward managing larger projects independently.
- A growing business: Be part of a team with exciting residential renovation and new-build projects ahead.
- Pride in your work: Help build quality homes and improvements that make a real difference for our clients.
