About Us
At 4 Of Kind, we specialize in high-end hardwood flooring, custom stair transformations, and architectural millwork across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and York Region. Operating out of our flagship Concord/Vaughan showroom, we are known for superior craftsmanship, clean job sites, and precise joinery.
We are looking for a skilled Stair Master Carpenter & Flooring Field Lead who takes pride in expert craftsmanship. If you excel at custom stair refacing, capping, nosing transitions, and leading clean field installations, this is your opportunity to anchor our field operations.
Position Overview
As our Field Lead, you are a hands-on working supervisor who leads site operations across residential renovation projects. You will spend roughly 80% of your time executing high-precision stair and floor installations and 20% verifying job site prep, mentoring installation crews, and executing final client walk-throughs.
You will act as our primary quality control (QC) anchor in the field—ensuring every tread scribe, handrail fitting, subfloor leveling test, and flush transition is executed flawlessly before site sign-off.
Key Responsibilities
Custom Stair Refacing & Joinery: Lead complex stair capping, tread retrofitting, riser installations, curved stringer wrapping, handrail fittings, and baluster installations to exact tolerances.
Hardwood & Specialty Flooring Execution: Oversee and execute site preparation, subfloor moisture testing, leveling, and installation of premium engineered hardwood, site-finished solid wood, and custom vinyl/tile transitions.
Ontario Building Code (OBC) Compliance: Ensure all stair geometry (riser heights, tread runs, handrail heights, and guard spacing) strictly complies with OBC Part 9 safety regulations.
Field Quality Control & Mobile Sign-Off: Complete brief pre-install and post-install digital photo checklists (verifying subfloor flatness, reveal lines, and job-site cleanliness) prior to releasing crew sign-offs.
Subcontractor & Crew Mentorship: Guide 2–3 crew members or sub-trade installers on site layout, precision cuts, and clean job-site protocols, maintaining an efficient pace without sacrificing finish quality.
Client & Site Relations: Maintain professional, respectful communication with homeowners and builders while on site, representing the 4 Of Kind brand standard.
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
Trade Experience: 5+ years of hands-on finish carpentry experience with a heavy, proven emphasis on custom stair installation, tread refacing, rail fitting, and hardwood flooring.
Technical Mastery: Expert knowledge of stair geometry, pitch calculations, scribing techniques, subfloor leveling compounds, and transition trim profiling.
Code Literacy:
Thorough understanding of Ontario Building Code (OBC Part 9) regulations for residential stairs, handrails, and guards.
Tools & Equipment: Possess a complete set of professional-grade finish carpentry hand and power tools (e.g., sliding compound miter saw, track saw, stair tread gauge/jig, table saw, pin nailers).
Driver’s License: Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License with a clean driving record (Company vehicle or mileage allowance provided).
Leadership & Pride in Work: Punctual, detail-oriented leader who holds themselves and their team to a high standard of craftsmanship.
Why Join 4 Of Kind?
Consistent Local Work: Steady year-round residential projects across Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Toronto, and surrounding York Region. No overnight travel.
Competitive Pay & Growth: Top-tier hourly wage with regular performance bonuses linked to clean, zero-callback job completions.
Contemporary Tech Support: Streamlined digital job scheduling and off-site administrative support so you can focus on building and installing rather than paperwork.
Respect for Craftsmanship: Work with quality hardwood materials, custom shop-fabricated treads, and clients who value high-end finish work.
4 Of Kind Stair & Floor Supply Ltd is an equal opportunity employer. We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
Pay: $17.60-$28.23 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
Work Location: In person
