Production Manager
Bristol Coachworks — Ingersoll Canada Full-time | On-site
About Bristol Coachworks
Bristol Coachworks is a Canadian manufacturer of premium commercial shuttle buses, based in Ingersoll, Ontario. We are coming up to the anniversary of our first full year of production and demand for our vehicles is growing. We’re expanding both our production and our product range, including a new vehicle line. We're building a leadership team equal to that growth — people with high standards, real expertise, and the drive to make an immediate impact.
About the Role
We’re hiring a Production Manager to own the shop floor — the shuttle bus line today, as well as future products currently in development.
This is a hands-on leadership role with real scope. You’ll run daily production, build and develop the team, tighten the processes we already have, and put in place the systems that let us scale without losing quality. We believe in getting the fundamentals right and maximizing the efficiency of current operations before making big leaps — if you like building a solid foundation and then growing from it, this role will suit you.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead all production operations for the shuttle bus line and the launch of the upcoming new vehicle program
· Own the production schedule: plan capacity, labour, and material flow to hit delivery commitments on time and on budget.
· Build, motivate, and grow the production team — hire to real needs, develop leads and supervisors, and manage performance with clear expectations and honest feedback.
· Streamline production: simplify work, remove waste and bottlenecks, and implement new processes, tooling, and standard work that create measurable efficiency gains.
· Drive quality — define and enforce build standards, workmanship criteria, and inspection points so vehicles leave the floor right the first time.
· Own health and safety on the floor: maintain a safe workplace and compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act,
including training, hazard control, PPE, and JHSC support.
· Establish and manage KPIs (throughput, labour hours per unit, on-time delivery, first-pass yield, scrap, rework, safety incidents) and report results and corrective actions to ownership.
· Manage the production budget, labour and overtime costs, equipment needs, and capital requests.
· Lead continuous improvement — run structured problem-solving and lean initiatives (5S, standard work, layout and line balancing, root cause analysis) with the people doing the work.
· Partner with engineering on design-for-manufacture, build documentation, BOM accuracy, and engineering changes; partner with purchasing on supply continuity and inventory levels.
· Build out the production systems and technology we need as we grow, including ERP/MES use, shop floor documentation, and data we can actually run the business on.
· Translate annual and quarterly objectives into monthly production plans, then execute against them.
Who You Are
· You can work at velocity and execute until the task is finished.
· You hold yourself and your team to high standards — personally and professionally — and you don’t let things slide.
· You’re an exceptional communicator. You’re clear, direct, and effective up, down, and across the organization, and you genuinely thrive in a team environment.
· You have a production mindset. You’re efficiency-minded and you execute to a high level.
· You attack work with energy and enthusiasm, and you see it through to completion. You follow through, and you hold others accountable for doing the same.
· You think strategically and organize and execute plans that hit monthly, quarterly, and annual goals.
· You’re dynamic, positive, and high-energy. You’re passionate about business and about your own growth, and you enjoy a hard problem.
· You’re technology-minded — you embrace innovation and you’re comfortable actually implementing it, not just talking about it.
· You believe in perfecting the fundamentals first: get current operations running efficiently before chasing the next new thing.
· You’re a team builder who values relationships and team chemistry, and you operate with a continuous growth mentality.
Qualifications
· 5+ years of production or manufacturing leadership experience, with direct responsibility for a production floor and supervisory staff.
· Experience in vehicle, bus, truck, trailer, RV, or other transportation/heavy equipment manufacturing strongly preferred; low-volume, high-mix or build-to-order environments are an asset.
· Proven ability to build and lead teams: hiring, training, performance management, and succession.
· Working knowledge of production planning, scheduling, capacity management, and inventory control.
· Solid understanding of quality systems, inspection processes, and root cause problem solving.
· Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations; supervisor health and safety training (or willingness to complete it).
· Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, BOMs, and build documentation.
· Experience with budgeting, cost control, and reporting to senior leadership.
· Post-secondary education in engineering, manufacturing, operations, or business is an asset; equivalent floor-earned experience is equally respected.
· Current product launch or line start-up experience is a strong asset given the accessible vehicle program.
Pay: $90,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
