Apply thin-film optics knowledge to optical filters, waveguides, and multilayer coatings with Canada’s National Research Council. The appointment lasts two years.
As a Research Officer within Quantum and Nanotechnologies, you will support research involving thin-film optical materials and photonics devices. The position requires an MSc or PhD in a related physical science or engineering discipline. Relevant expertise includes spectrophotometry, spectroscopic ellipsometry, interference-filter design, vacuum deposition systems, thickness monitoring, and Python. Candidates must communicate clearly and work effectively in team-oriented, milestone-driven research environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Study thin-film optics, optical filters, and waveguide optics
- Characterize optical materials using specified techniques
- Fabricate multilayer optical coatings through vacuum deposition
- Monitor film thickness during coating fabrication
- Work collaboratively in milestone-driven research environments
Requirements:
- Degree related to thin-film optics
- Experience designing thin-film interference filters
- Experience with vacuum thin-film deposition systems
- Programming experience such as Python
- Knowledge of semiconductor device basics
Bring research experience in thin-film characterization, filter design, vacuum deposition, and optical coating fabrication to NRC.
