As a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive patient care under the guidance of a Physician and the Nurse Supervisor. The RPN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, ensuring it is evidence-informed, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, person-centered, and recovery-oriented. The RPN collaborates closely with healthcare professionals in a safe and secure setting, ensuring quality care for patients undergoing treatment for mental health and addiction challenges.



Much of the RPN’s role involves direct interaction with patients, fostering therapeutic relationships and support. Registered Psychiatric Nurses may encounter exposure to blood, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals, and other safety hazards. Assessing patients' psychiatric states to determine their needs. Collaborating on the development and implementation of psychiatric intervention plans. Administering psychotropic and related medications while monitoring their effects. Identifying and removing potentially harmful or triggering environmental factors. Documenting patients' health journeys and reporting significant changes. Performing general nursing duties related to the treatment of addiction and mental health. Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing or a related field from an accredited institution Completion of a recognized psychiatric nursing program Valid RPN license in the province or territory of practice Registration with the relevant nursing regulatory body Clinical experience in psychiatric nursing or mental health settings preferred Understanding of mental health disorders and treatment modalities Awareness of trauma-informed care and culturally sensitive practices EHN Canada is an employment equity employer.
