You know your CAM reconciliations. You understand commercial leases. You take ownership of your portfolio, and you get things done.

MatchBox Consulting Group is working with one of British Columbia's most established and respected real estate developers and property owners to find an experienced Senior Property Accountant to join their accounting team in Burnaby.

We're looking for someone who knows commercial property accounting inside and out, takes pride in getting the details right, and doesn't need someone looking over their shoulder to get the job done.

You're an experienced individual contributor. You know your deadlines, understand your responsibilities, and take ownership of your work. You can manage a portfolio independently, solve problems as they arise, and communicate confidently with the people around you.

Maybe you're currently with a third-party property management company and want to move to the landlord side. Maybe you're already working for an owner but want a larger portfolio, a stronger team, and better long-term opportunities.

Either way, this is an opportunity to do meaningful work with a company that values experienced professionals who deliver.

What You'll Be Doing

Take full ownership of accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of commercial income-producing properties.

Independently prepare and review CAM and operating cost reconciliations, tenant recoveries, and annual adjustments.

Interpret commercial leases, review rent rolls, and ensure accuracy across tenant billings, recoveries, and chargebacks.

Maintain accurate property and tenant financial information in Yardi.

Prepare monthly, quarterly,

and annual financial statements, reconciliations, and working papers.

Manage general ledger activity, accruals, amortization, and other full-cycle accounting responsibilities.

Prepare and analyze property budgets, forecasts, and financial variances.

Work directly with property management, leasing, finance, and other internal stakeholders.

Resolve accounting discrepancies, respond to tenant inquiries, and address issues without unnecessary escalation.

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and financial controls.

Deliver accurate work on time, manage competing priorities, and keep stakeholders informed.

What You Bring

5+ years of progressive commercial property accounting experience, ideally with a property owner, developer, or established third-party property management company.

Strong technical knowledge of CAM reconciliations, tenant recoveries, commercial leases, and property financial reporting.

Experience managing a portfolio of commercial income-producing properties with minimal supervision.

Strong Yardi experience and advanced Excel skills.

A solid understanding of full-cycle accounting, financial statements, general ledger management, and GAAP.

A CPA designation or equivalent professional accounting qualification is preferred.

Exceptional attention to detail,

strong analytical skills, and the ability to see the bigger financial picture.

An outgoing, approachable personality. You're comfortable working directly with property managers, leasing teams, and senior stakeholders.

Sound judgment and the confidence to make decisions, solve problems, and take responsibility for your work.

Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines without constant follow-up.

Most importantly, you're a capable, independent professional who gets things done.

You're not necessarily looking to manage a team, and you don't need a management title to feel successful. You enjoy being the person who knows their portfolio, understands the numbers, and can be counted on to deliver.

You take your work seriously, enjoy working with good people, and appreciate an office where colleagues are accessible and everyone contributes.

Why This Prospect?

Our client is a well-established, privately owned real estate developer and property owner with a substantial commercial and industrial portfolio.

Unlike third-party property management, where you're managing properties on behalf of multiple clients, this is an opportunity to work directly on the ownership side, developing a deeper understanding of the assets, the business, and the long-term financial performance of the portfolio.

The company has a strong reputation for investing in its people, rewarding performance, and offering genuine opportunities for professional development.

What makes this opportunity stand out:

Ownership and autonomy: Manage your portfolio, make decisions, and be trusted to deliver witho
