As an Embedded Software Engineer Co-op, you will design, implement, and maintain platform and application software. Your work may span low-level drivers, hardware interfaces, system applications, fault and alarm subsystems, and SDKs. Ciena’s team develops software for flagship products, connecting hardware components with higher-level applications.

Key Responsibilities:

- Maintain Linux and VxWorks kernels and base software components
- Develop drivers for ASICs, FPGAs, and hardware components
- Build interfaces across hardware and software abstraction layers
- Develop fault, alarm,



protection, and monitoring applications
- Create SDKs supporting platform application development and integration

Requirements:

- Actively enrolled in computer or electrical engineering degree
- Actively enrolled in computer science or similar discipline
- Experience developing with C or C++
- Understanding of real-time operating systems and embedded systems
- Interest in embedded or telecommunications software development
