Job description

Love creating content, connecting with people, and bringing ideas to life?

What if your next job gave you the freedom to be creative, get out into the community, meet excellent people, and help build a local brand that people genuinely recognize and trust?

At Thunderbird Plumbing, we're building more than a plumbing company. We're building a team, a reputation, and a brand that people across Greater Victoria and Central Vancouver Island know for the right reasons.

We're a family- and founder-operated business with deep roots in Victoria and growing operations across Nanaimo, Parksville, and the surrounding communities. We believe in showing up, doing good work, supporting local organizations, and treating people right.

Now, we're looking for a creative, outgoing, and self-motivated Digital Media & Community Engagement Coordinator to help bring our brand to life.

If you love making videos, have a knack for storytelling, enjoy meeting people, and are the kind of person who sees an opportunity and runs with it, we'd love to meet you.

Why Join Thunderbird?

- Get out from behind the screen. You'll spend time visiting job sites, meeting community partners, attending local events, and capturing the people and stories that make Thunderbird what it is.
- Have room to be creative. From funny behind-the-scenes videos and plumbing tips to team spotlights and community campaigns, you'll have the opportunity to experiment, try new ideas, and find what resonates with our audience. We want someone who brings ideas forward, takes ownership, and helps shape how our brand shows up in the world.
- Be part of a growing local business. As Thunderbird expands across Central Vancouver Island, you'll help build relationships and recognition in new communities.
- Work with a team that values people. We're family- and founder-operated, and we believe in treating our employees with respect, supporting personal growth, and creating a workplace people are proud to be part of.
- See the impact of your work. Your content won't disappear into a corporate marketing department. You'll see your ideas come to life, your campaigns reach real people, and your work contribute to the growth of the business.

About the Role

Think of yourself as the person helping tell the Thunderbird story. As our Social Media & Community Engagement Coordinator, you’ll be the voice and personality of Thunderbird Plumbing across our digital channels and local communities.

You'll be responsible for bringing our people, work, personality, and community involvement to life across our digital channels. One day, you might be filming a technician explaining a common plumbing problem. The next, you could be putting together a team video, visiting a local sports organization, or creating a campaign around one of our community partnerships.

You'll work directly with our leadership team, technicians, and office staff to find great stories, create engaging content, and build genuine connections with the communities we serve.

We're looking for someone who can balance creativity with consistency. Great ideas matter, but so does following through, keeping a schedule, and making sure the work gets done.

This is a hands-on,

in-person role based in Greater Victoria, with regular travel to communities we serve across Central Vancouver Island.

What You'll Be Doing

Social Media & Content Creation

- Plan, create, and publish content across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
- Film and edit short-form videos, reels, stories, interviews, and behind-the-scenes content.
- Capture photos and videos of our technicians, projects, company culture, and day-to-day operations.
- Turn everyday moments into engaging stories that show people who we are and what makes Thunderbird different.
- Create useful, approachable plumbing tips and educational content that helps homeowners.
- Develop content calendars and keep our channels active, consistent, and on-brand.
- Write captions, respond to comments and messages, and engage with our online community.
- Monitor performance, identify what is working, and use those insights to improve future content.

Community Engagement & Local Partnerships

- Build relationships with local sports teams, schools, charities, nonprofits, community organizations, and businesses.
- Coordinate sponsorships, donations, community events, and local initiatives.
- Attend selected events to represent Thunderbird, connect with people, and capture content.
- Identify opportunities for Thunderbird to get involved in meaningful ways within the communities we serve.
- Help bring our brand into new markets, including Nanaimo, Parksville, and surrounding areas.
- Follow through on partnerships and make sure our community commitments are organized and delivered.

Brand, Culture & Reputation

- Showcase our team members, employee milestones, company events, and behind-the-scenes culture.
- Help customers and potential employees get a feel for the people behind the Thunderbird name.
- Support initiatives that encourage happy customers to share their experiences and leave reviews.
- Collaborate with our leadership team and marketing partners on campaigns, promotions, and seasonal content.
- Keep our online presence current, professional, approachable, and locally relevant.
- Help develop new ideas that make Thunderbird more recognizable and memorable.
- Plan and coordinate company events, team-building activities, staff celebrations, and internal initiatives that strengthen our team culture and bring our people together.

Organization & Reporting

- Maintain a practical content calendar and plan ahead for campaigns and events.
- Keep content files, photos, videos, and marketing assets organized.
- Track monthly content production, engagement, audience growth, and inquiries or leads where measurable.
- Provide a straightforward monthly update on what was accomplished, what worked, and what should happen next.
- Manage your time independently, communicate progress, and follow through on commitments.

What We're Looking For

We're more interested in what you can create and how you approach your work than in the letters after your name.

You might have a marketing diploma, a background in social media, experience creating content for a small business, or a personal portfolio that shows what you're capable of. What matters most is your creativity, initiative, communication skills, and ability to execute.

Ideally, you bring:

- Experience creating and managing social media content for a business, organization, personal brand, or community group.
- Strong writing and communication skills, with an eye for what makes content engaging.
- The ability to film, photograph, edit, and tell a story using a phone or camera.
- Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
- Experience with tools such as Canva, CapCut, or similar editing and design platforms.
- Confidence speaking with people, conducting short interviews, and capturing authentic moments.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects without constant supervision.
- A friendly, professional personality and a genuine interest in local communities.
- The initiative to identify opportunities, suggest ideas, and turn them into completed work.
- A valid driver's licence and reliable transportation for local visits and events.
- Flexibility to attend occasional evening or weekend events when needed.

A marketing qualification is an asset, but it isn't a requirement. A strong portfolio, creative thinking, and a track record of getting things done will go a long way.

What Success Looks Like

We want to see someone who takes ownership of the role and helps build momentum.

In your first six months, success will look like:

- Establishing a consistent, recognizable Thunderbird presence across our social media channels.
- Producing a steady stream of quality short-form video, photography, and other engaging content.
- Developing a content calendar that keeps our channels active and our campaigns organized.
- Increasing meaningful engagement and growing our local audience.
- Building relationships with community organizations and helping coordinate successful partnerships.
- Showcasing our people, company culture, expertise, and community involvement in an authentic way.
- Identifying which content generates the strongest engagement, inquiries, and business opportunities.
- Providing clear monthly reporting and practical ideas for what to improve next.

We're not chasing vanity metrics just to make the numbers look good. We want content that builds trust, strengthens our reputation, connects us with our communities, and supports the growth of Thunderbird.
