Shape Tempo’s hardest distributed systems problems with Go, technical ownership, and a fully work from home model. Lead substantial projects from framing through rollout.
As a Senior Engineer, you will guide Tempo’s technical direction and deliver multi-month initiatives across ingestion, storage, querying, and metrics generation. You will write design documents, make performance, cost, and complexity trade-offs, and partner with Staff engineers, technical leads, Product, and sibling teams. The work includes trace aggregation APIs, autoscaling cells, customer limits, and query engine improvements.
Key Responsibilities: Own technical direction for complex Tempo roadmap problems
Deliver multi-month projects from problem framing through rollout
Build and operate ingestion, storage, query, and metrics components




Define SLOs and improve operational excellence through automation
Mentor engineers through reviews, feedback, and pairing
Requirements: Significant production experience with distributed data systems
Strong Go experience or a path to it
Experience operating production services and participating in on-call
Experience with tracing, OpenTelemetry, or observability systems
Track record delivering complex multi-month technical projects
Bring distributed systems expertise, Go capability, and operational ownership to Tempo’s ingestion, storage, query, and metrics platform.
