- 165,800.00 Position Highlights BC Hydro is looking for an inspiring, collaborative leader to head our Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) Assurance team. The team helps the business show that its compliance processes are sound and working, from day-to-day operations through to capital projects. If you're passionate about building accountability, making meaningful connections and leading with empathy, this is your opportunity to make a difference. You'll join the Compliance Department, within the General Counsel & Compliance Office Business Group, and report to the Director, Compliance. Your work centers on BC Hydro's adherence to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) MRS, adopted by the BC Utilities Commission. These standards cover real-time operations, transmission planning, protection system maintenance and critical infrastructure protection (CIP), and they are central to the reliability of the bulk electric system. The MRS Assurance team covers three areas:
- Operations & Planning assurance
- CIP assurance
- Project Compliance, which builds MRS requirements into engineering, construction and technology projects ranging from under $1M to over $10B
What you'll do
- Lead & inspire: Lead and mentor a team of assurance professionals and consultants. Set clear priorities, keep work moving and deliver risk-proportionate results.
- Partner with the business: Help Governance Delegates, Execution Delegates and Compliance Leads confirm that their processes and controls are designed well and working. Raise areas of concern and opportunities for improvement, and influence and support the business to resolve them.
- Integrate MRS into projects: Own the practice of building MRS into the project lifecycle. Set and deliver an annual risk
- based project engagement strategy, and ensure compliance gaps are closed before assets go into service.
- Strategize & plan: Build risk-based assurance plans across Operations & Planning, CIP and capital projects. Refine procedures, tools (including the MRS project applicability tool) and documentation.
- Monitor & improve: Lead assessments, control testing and reviews of how well processes work. Turn findings into practical insights and reports for managers, directors and executives.
- Support regulatory processes: Provide expert input on regulatory filings, project gates and Board briefings. Identify potential non-compliance and refer it to Investigations. Support preparation for the 2027 WECC audit alongside MRS Governance & Risk.
- Manage resources: Balance internal staff and external consultants, make the most of capital-funded resources, and track progress across a broad portfolio.
- Collaborate across the industry: Build relationships with WECC, other utilities and industry groups, and bring best practices back to BC Hydro. ***What we are looking for**
