Description
We're seeking a compassionate, reliable caregiver to support an 89-year-old woman living independently in Mississauga. She's navigating arthritis challenges and mobility limitations but maintains her independence in many daily activities. Her geriatric doctor has recommended increased social interaction and structured support to help her remain safely at home.
About the Client:
She uses a walker for mobility and lives in a two-bedroom apartment. While she manages personal care independently (bathing, dressing, toileting), she needs assistance with tasks requiring grip strength and balance. She's vegetarian, speaks English and Hindi, and would feel most comfortable with an Indian or Filipino caregiver who understands her cultural background. She's working with a physical therapist twice weekly and follows a chair-based exercise routine at home.
Responsibilities
Transport to medical appointments (dentist, foot care, blood tests) using your own vehicle
Accompany her to a senior day program once weekly
Assist with meal preparation, particularly chopping vegetables and cooking traditional vegetarian meals
Light housekeeping support including helping transport laundry to/from the building's laundry room
Grocery shopping and errands (dollar store, bulk store)
Encourage and supervise daily chair exercises
Provide companionship and help with decluttering projects
Assist with tasks requiring reaching or balance (retrieving items, organizing)
Memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed
What We're Looking For
Valid driver's license with reliable vehicle and commercial insurance rider
Experience supporting seniors with walkers or wheelchairs
Calm, patient demeanor with strong initiative
Cultural familiarity with Indian vegetarian cooking preferred
Excellent communication skills with both client and family
Ability to build trust and develop a consistent relationship
Respectful of independence while ensuring safety
Schedule
Tuesday and Friday, 3 hours per visit (6 hours weekly total). Typical timing: 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM to accommodate 1:00 PM appointments, with flexibility for relationship-building time before or after appointments. Consistent weekly schedule with occasional flexibility for additional overnight support when family travels.
Parking is available at the building for caregivers, with accommodations made as needed. The family is committed to finding the right long-term match and values consistency, reliability, and genuine connection.
