The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH. The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology is a clinically strong group that offers the full range of rheumatology care to children and adolescents. With the addition of a new member, there will be 5 full time and 2 part time members with academic strengths in multiple fields including medical education, research, advocacy, and health services delivery.

The division is supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes administrative assistants, specialized nursing staff, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and psychology. The Division has an active, fully accredited Royal College Pediatric Rheumatology residency program, one of only 3 in Canada and the sole program in Quebec. As a clinician-scientist, the successful candidate will become a member of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), joining one of the eight active research programs at the RI-MUHC. Fundamental scientists are affiliated with the Centre for Translational Biology, while clinical scientists are affiliated with the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation. Clinician-scientists are expected to commit 50%-75% of their time to research.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be actively involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Department of Pediatrics, Division of Rheumatology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH), McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). Clinician-scientists are expected to cover approximately 6 weeks of service per year and hold a minimum of one half-day out-patient clinic every week. The incumbent will be expected to participate in all clinical and administrative division meetings.

Supervision of undergraduate and graduate trainees and participation in the pediatric rheumatology subspecialty training program is expected. Physicians in the Division of Rheumatology are also expected to contribute to our interdisciplinary education mission, supporting the education and professional development of nurses and nurse practitioners as well. As a clinician-scientist, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to independently initiate, conduct, and manage a research program.
