THE ROLE:
Our client, an established public accounting firm, is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join their team. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with public practice experience who enjoys preparing compilation engagements and working with a variety of privately held businesses and investment companies. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing working paper files, completing adjusting journal entries, and progressing compilation engagements through to the review stage. This role offers an opportunity to further develop technical accounting skills within a collaborative public practice environment.

Responsibilities:
Prepare compilation engagements (formerly Notice to Reader) for a diverse portfolio of private companies and investment entities
Complete working paper files and ensure supporting documentation is accurate and organized
Prepare adjusting journal entries including amortization, accruals, prepaid expenses, and year-end adjustments
Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances
Prepare financial statement schedules and supporting working papers
Advance files through completion and review stages for manager and partner review
Communicate with clients to gather information and resolve accounting matters
Support corporate and personal tax preparation as experience permits
Manage multiple engagements while meeting established deadlines

YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 1+ year of experience in a Canadian public practice firm
Hands-on experience preparing compilation engagements (Notice to Reader)
Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and year-end accounting processes
Experience preparing adjusting journal entries and reconciliations
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple files and meet deadlines
Strong communication and client relationship management skills
CPA designation or active enrollment in the CPA program considered an asset
Corporate and personal tax preparation experience considered an asset
Experience with CaseWare, Jazzit, and Taxprep considered an asset




Exposure to investment holding companies or investment-related accounting is an asset
