Jo’s Butcher Shoppe & Market, located in the iconic Hamilton Farmers’ Market, is looking for a butcher/meat cutter to join our small team.

We’re looking for outgoing, friendly people who are passionate about local food, enjoy working as part of a team, and are comfortable interacting with customers throughout the day in our open-concept butcher shop.

Position Available:

Permanent Part-Time Butchers / Meat Cutter
Cooking or kitchen experience is strongly preferred.

Previous butchery experience is an asset, but it is not a strict requirement. This position may be particularly well suited to an experienced chef or cook looking for part-time work in a collaborative environment that values teamwork and work/life balance.

Hours & Availability:

The shop is currently open:

Wednesday - Friday: 10 am - 5 pm
Saturday: 8 am - 5 pm

Permanent Part-Time candidates must be available to work a minimum of 1–2 Saturdays per month.

We also occasionally participate in off-site pop-ups, catering and special events outside regular business hours. These shifts are offered to staff on an as-needed basis.

Because we are a small team, we are also happy to hear from experienced candidates looking for casual or occasional work, including vacation coverage, seasonal busy periods and special events. If regular Saturday availability does not work for you, please indicate that you are interested in casual employment.

We currently prepare and serve hot food on Saturdays, so candidates who are comfortable assisting with food preparation and service are especially welcome.

(A driver’s licence and vehicle are not required.)

Duties & Qualifications:

- Cut, trim and prepare raw and smoked meat products in an open-concept butcher shop.
- Prepare, portion,



package and display meat products for sale.
- Assist with light cooking and food preparation, including marinades, sausage seasonings, sauces and vegetable preparation.
- Assist with Saturday hot-food preparation and service as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized and food-safe workspace in accordance with Hamilton Public Health requirements.
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service, including answering product questions and offering cooking tips and recommendations.
- Work cooperatively as part of a small team and assist wherever needed during busy periods.
- Maintain strong standards of cleanliness, organization and customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Handle multiple tasks and priorities calmly and efficiently.

What we’re looking for:

- Professional kitchen, cooking or food-preparation experience.
- Food handling and food-safety knowledge.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- A positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Comfort working directly with customers in an open-concept environment.
- Butchery or meat-cutting experience is preferred, but we welcome candidates with strong professional kitchen experience.
- Availability for weekends and occasional special-event shifts.
