Solstice Landscape Maintenance

Southeast Edmonton

Solstice Landscape Maintenance is a family-owned Edmonton company providing professional landscape maintenance and sidewalk snow removal services to multi-family residential and commercial properties.

We are looking for an experienced, dependable Crew Leader / Field Supervisor to join our team.

This is a hands-on position for someone who is comfortable taking the lead in the field while working alongside their crew. We are looking for someone with strong practical experience who can run a crew, train and support employees, operate commercial equipment, troubleshoot problems and help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to our standards.

Responsibilities

- Lead and supervise landscape maintenance and snow removal crews
- Work hands-on alongside the crew throughout the shift
- Train new and existing employees on equipment, procedures, safety and quality standards
- Provide direction and answer questions from crew members in the field
- Help troubleshoot problems and communicate with management when additional direction is required
- Ensure assigned properties are completed efficiently and to company standards
- Drive company pickup trucks while towing equipment trailers
- Safely load, secure, transport and unload equipment
- Operate commercial walk-behind and hand-operated sidewalk snow removal equipment, including power brooms/brushes, snow blowers, backpack blowers and similar equipment
- Perform hands-on sidewalk snow clearing, shovelling, ice removal and sanding
- Perform basic equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs
- Identify equipment problems and communicate when additional repair or servicing is required
- Operate commercial landscape equipment including push and ride-on mowers, trimmers and other powered equipment
- Complete mowing, trimming, edging, hedge trimming, weeding, cleanup and garbage pickup
- Complete required work, time, site-condition and hazard reporting accurately
- Help keep trucks, trailers, equipment and work areas clean, organized and properly maintained
- Communicate professionally with employees, management and customers when required

Qualifications

This is an experienced leadership position. We are looking for someone who can take responsibility for both their own work and the performance of the crew they are leading as well as working with all the staff and management.

Required:

- Previous experience leading or supervising a crew
- Previous commercial sidewalk snow removal experience
- Experience using walk-behind and hand-operated snow removal equipment such as power brooms, snow blowers and backpack blowers
- Comfortable performing physically demanding snow removal by hand, including shovelling and ice removal
- Experience driving a pickup truck while towing and maneuvering an equipment trailer
- Valid driver's licence with a clean/acceptable driver's abstract
- Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to train employees and provide clear, respectful direction
- Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and make good decisions in the field
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work for full shifts in changing weather conditions
- Reliable transportation to and from work

Previous commercial landscape maintenance experience is strongly preferred.

Please note: Our snow removal work is focused on sidewalks and pedestrian areas using hand tools and walk-behind equipment. This is not a heavy-equipment operator position. We do not use skid steers, Bobcats, loaders or similar large equipment for this role.

Winter Schedule & Guaranteed Hours

A minimum of 30 paid hours per week is guaranteed during the winter season.

Availability for every snowfall is required.

Reliability during snow events is extremely important to this position.

Snow shifts typically begin at approximately 9:00 AM, depending on the timing of snowfall and site conditions. There is no set end time on snow days. Shifts continue until assigned properties are completed and may be long depending on snowfall, ice and weather conditions.

When snowfall does not provide 30 hours of work, remaining guaranteed hours may include ice checks, sanding, filling sand bins, equipment and vehicle maintenance, shop organization, training, site inspections and other company duties.

Applicants must understand that while a minimum of 30 hours is guaranteed, actual hours during snow events may be considerably higher depending on weather conditions.

Summer Schedule

During the landscape maintenance season, this is a full-time seasonal position, generally Monday through Friday.

Occasional weekend work may be required during peak periods or to make up for weather-related delays.

Our summer work includes regular commercial and multi-family property maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, hedge trimming, weeding, cleanup and related property maintenance.

The Person We're Looking For

We don't expect someone to know our properties, routes or procedures on their first day. We will train the successful candidate on how Solstice operates.

We do need someone who already knows how to lead people, operate equipment and take responsibility in the field.

We're looking for someone who is dependable, level-headed and confident. Someone who can solve everyday problems, recognize when they need to ask a question, help newer employees improve and keep a crew moving while maintaining a high standard of work.

This is not a position where the supervisor watches everyone else work. Our crew leaders work alongside their crews and lead by example.

For the right person, this has the potential to become an key long-term role within Solstice Landscape Maintenance.

Pay: $26.00-$30.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
