West Coast Pre Fab
British Columbia
West Coast Pre Fab is a growing fabrication and construction company in Chemainus, BC. We are seeking an experienced Business Development specialist to help grow our customer base and develop new opportunities across Vancouver Island and British Columbia.
WCPF provides leading construction and maintenance all over Western Canada in the industrial and commercial space. Including: marine vessels and foreshore, terminals and bulk handling, mines and processing, pulp & paper, gas and electricity utilities, municipal water and wastewater and much more.
We have teams of trades, supervisors and project managers to plan and execute continuous or special construction, as well as maintain facilities daily or during intense turnarounds. The Business Development specialist is a representative of the company, out developing contacts and leads. This is a travelling position.
A Business Development Representative:
- Develops and maintains relationships with new and existing clients.
- Identifies new opportunities for our services and products, including trades, metal fabrication, cranes, precision survey, engineering, and machine shop services.
- Researches potential customers, industries and projects.
- Gets in front of customers, walks jobs and gathers the information our estimating and project teams need.
- Helps turn customer problems and concepts into opportunities that our team can price and deliver.
- Works as part of the project delivery team from initial opportunity through to completion.
- Represents West Coast Pre Fab professionally in the market and builds a reputation for reliable service.
This person is never without a team behind them. They will find the opportunities and our estimators and project managers will assist in turning it into reality.
We are looking for someone with proven business development, sales, account management or industry experience. You don't need to be an engineer or tradesperson, but you need to be comfortable learning how industrial construction, fabrication, maintenance and engineering work together.
A great attitude and the ability to deal confidently with people are required. We are a family-run business that cannot afford to ever leave a job unfinished. We take our commitments to customers seriously, and we expect the same from our team.
You will need drive, organization and attention to detail.
Not missing important details is critical in an environment where the amount of communication, information and customer data increases every week. We are versatile with what platform we use to communicate with business development staff, any way that we can ensure all leads are documented and no opportunities are forgotten. This necessitates a familiarity with computers but not a specific software.
West Coast Pre Fab is based in Chemainus with remote offices and fabrication. Ideally, business development staff will be based in the Lower Mainland.
This position requires substantial travel. It involves being in-person with our existing and new customers. Many trips are day trips within the Lower Mainland, some are a night or two in the interior or on Vancouver Island, some are a full work week iņ Alberta or further East.
The position requires visits to heavy industrial, commercial, municipal and institutional sites. You may encounter ladders, stairs, roofs, towers, and (rarely) confined space entry. Strict adherence to safe work practices and watching for personal risks is of utmost importance as our clients have a number of risks on their sites.
Our business development personnel are hands-on. You will walk jobs, take notes and photos, talk with customers and site personnel, and gather information for our estimator and project teams. The further you can develop an opportunity and understand the customer's needs, the better we can meet those needs and increase our odds of success.
Job Responsibilities

- Follow up on quotes and opportunities and help move prospective work toward a decision.
- Identify additional opportunities with existing customers based on their operations and needs.
- Maintain accurate records of contacts, opportunities, calls, meetings and customer information.

- Monitor market trends, customer trends, competitors and changes in the industries we serve.
- Track business development activity and results and collaborate on establishing realistic growth goals.
- Collaborate with estimating, engineering, project management and shop teams to determine how we can best serve a customer.
- Help communicate our capabilities through online marketing, including writing content and taking photos for our website and social media.
- Continue learning about the many types of work and services we can perform.
Education and/or Experience
- Able to travel, over night, and to remote areas. Success here is 80% out in the field and less than 20% in the office researching, calling and briefing.
- Able to drive and take flights.
- Post-secondary education in business, trades, engineering or a related field is an asset.
- 5 years of experience in business development, sales, account management, industrial services, construction, maintenance, manufacturing, parts supply or a related field.
- Experience selling B2B services or working with industrial/commercial customers is an asset.
- Strong computer skills required. Very strong skills in Word or Excel and Outlook, with attention to spelling, accuracy and tone a must for frequent written communication.
- Experience with CRM or customer relationship management systems is an asset and we are open to the minimum effective design.
