CIF Construction

British Columbia

CIF Construction Ltd. is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our team.

CIF is a heavy civil and industrial contractor specializing in concrete and earthworks, with projects across Western Canada in mining, energy, forestry, oil & gas, and transportation. Our work takes us to some incredible — and often remote — locations, and safety is at the centre of everything we do.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about construction safety, comfortable working directly with field crews and supervision, and able to turn safety requirements into practical solutions that work in the field.

As a Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll play an important role in maintaining and continually improving CIF’s safety culture. You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen and employees to identify hazards, provide guidance, conduct inspections, support investigations, deliver training, and ensure our projects meet company, client and regulatory requirements.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys being in the field, working a rotational schedule, building relationships with crews, asking the right questions, and helping people go home secure at the end of every shift.

Responsibilities

- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and workplace observations.
- Identify hazards and provide practical recommendations to eliminate or control risks.
- Work directly with supervisors and field crews to promote safe work practices.
- Support the implementation and ongoing improvement of CIF’s Health & Safety Program.
- Ensure company policies, procedures and safe work practices are understood and followed.
- Assist with developing and reviewing Job Hazard Assessments, FLHAs,

safe work procedures and other safety documentation.
- Participate in incident, near-miss and accident investigations and assist with corrective action follow-up.
- Monitor compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, client requirements and project-specific safety standards.
- Provide safety orientations, toolbox talks, training and coaching to employees and supervisors.
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, inspections and documentation.
- Assist with COR requirements, internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track safety statistics, trends and corrective actions.
- Participate in safety meetings and communicate safety concerns and recommendations to project management.
- Support injury management and return-to-work processes as required.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, response planning and drills.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to ensure safety is integrated into planning and daily operations.
- Travel to and work at remote industrial construction sites throughout Western Canada.
- Perform other safety-related duties as required.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a construction safety role.

- Strong knowledge of BC occupational health and safety legislation and construction safety practices, including the Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia
- Experience working in industrial, heavy civil, mining or remote construction environments is an asset.
- Valid First Aid certification.
- Strong knowledge of WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space and other common construction safety requirements.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits and incident investigations.
- Experience delivering safety orientations, toolbox talks and training.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with employees, supervisors and project management.
- Ability to confidently identify safety concerns and communicate corrective actions in a professional and respectful manner.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong proficiency with computers including experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
- Ability and willingness to work rotational schedules and live in remote camp environments.

Additional safety certifications and training such as COR Internal Auditor, Traffic Control, Ground Disturbance, Confined Space, Respirator Fit Testing or Train the Trainer are considered assets.
