Personal Support Worker – In-Home Care (One-on-One)

Job Summary

We’re looking for a dependable, compassionate Personal Support Worker to provide one-on-one care in the home of a client living with quadriplegia. You’ll support the client’s daily routines, comfort, health, and independence. The client directs their own care, so the right person listens well, respects the client’s choices, and treats their home with care.

Responsibilities

- Help with all personal care, including bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, and oral hygiene.
- Do safe transfers between bed, wheelchair, commode, and shower using a mechanical lift (e.g., Hoyer) and other transfer aids.
- Reposition the client regularly and check their skin to prevent pressure injuries.
- Help with bowel and bladder routines, which may include catheter care and a bowel program, following the care plan.
- Help with medications according to the established care plan and procedures.
- Prepare meals and help with eating and drinking as needed.
- Do range-of-motion exercises and other routines as directed by the care plan or therapists.
- Know the signs of autonomic dysreflexia and other urgent health changes, and respond according to the care plan.
- Keep the client’s living space clean, safe, and organized, including light housekeeping and laundry.
- Help with errands, appointments, and community outings when needed.




- Keep accurate notes and pass updates on to the client, their family, and healthcare providers.

Experience & Qualifications

Required:

- PSW certificate or equivalent
- Experience with personal care and safe transfers, including mechanical lifts
- Transparent communication and a respectful, client-centred approach
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working on your own in a home setting
- Current CPR/First Aid
- Explicit police check (vulnerable sector)

Preferred:

- Experience supporting people with spinal cord injuries, quadriplegia, or other physical disabilities
- Experience with catheter care, bowel routines, and pressure injury prevention
- Experience helping with medications
- A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24.0 – 40.0 per week
