Lead Registered Veterinary Technician (Lead RVT)

Windrush Veterinary Services | Brantford, Ontario
Full-Time | Permanent

Join Our Team at Windrush Veterinary Services!

Windrush Veterinary Services is a warm, collaborative, and client-focused veterinary hospital committed to providing exceptional patient care and creating a positive experience for both clients and team members.

As our team continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Lead Registered Veterinary Technician (Lead RVT) who is ready to take the next step in their career.

This is a hands-on clinical leadership position for an RVT who enjoys being actively involved in patient care while also helping guide, support, and develop the RVT and Animal Care Attendant (ACA) team.

This is not an Office Manager position. The focus of the role is clinical leadership, patient care, team mentorship, hospital workflow, training, and maintaining high standards across the veterinary support team.

The Role

As Lead RVT, you will work closely with our veterinarians and hospital team to support the day-to-day clinical operations of the practice. You will serve as a senior resource for RVTs and ACAs, help coordinate clinical workflow, provide coaching and mentorship, and lead by example on the hospital floor.

You will remain actively involved in patient care while helping ensure the team is organized, supported, and consistently delivering excellent veterinary medicine and client service.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide hands-on RVT patient care, including anesthesia monitoring, surgical preparation, dentistry, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and recovery care.
- Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and guidance to RVTs, Veterinary Technicians, and Animal Care Attendants.
- Help coordinate hospital-floor workflow, patient priorities, treatment responsibilities, and appropriate allocation of support staff throughout the day.
- Act as a senior clinical resource for team members requiring guidance or assistance with patient care, procedures, protocols, or workflow.
- Mentor, coach,

and support RVTs, technicians, ACAs, students, and newer team members in developing their clinical skills and confidence.
- Support the onboarding and training of new clinical team members and help ensure consistent training standards.
- Promote and reinforce hospital protocols, patient-care standards, safety practices, and effective communication across the clinical team.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, workflow, patient care, and team collaboration and work with the veterinarians to implement improvements.
- Assist with maintaining appropriate clinical supplies, treatment-area organization, equipment readiness, and overall hospital preparedness.
- Obtain and document patient histories and perform diagnostic sample collection, including blood, urine, and fecal samples.
- Calculate medication and drug dosages and ensure appropriate DVM verification procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate medical records, treatment documentation, drug logs, and controlled-substance records.
- Educate clients regarding preventative healthcare, nutrition, medications, treatment plans, and post-operative care.
- Help foster a respectful, accountable, supportive, and team-oriented hospital culture.
- Participate in team meetings, continuing education, training, and hospital improvement initiatives.
- Provide occasional front-desk support when required to maintain a seamless client and patient experience.

What We're Looking For

- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) designation with the OAVT in good standing.
- Several years of hands-on veterinary hospital experience, ideally within a small-animal general practice environment.

- Strong clinical skills and confidence in anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory procedures, patient monitoring, and treatment.
- Previous experience mentoring, training, or providing leadership to RVTs, technicians, ACAs, or veterinary support staff is strongly preferred.
- A natural ability to lead by example and earn the trust and respect of colleagues.
- Robust organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and coordinate workflow in a busy hospital environment.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to address day-to-day challenges professionally, calmly, and constructively.
- A collaborative leadership style and willingness to remain actively involved in patient care.
- Genuine passion for animal health, team development, and exceptional client service.

What We Offer

- Competitive hourly compensation commensurate with experience and leadership responsibilities
- Up to 40 hours per week
- 4-day work week + every other Saturday (9:00 AM–1:00 PM)
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Paid RVT dues
- Continuing Education (CE) allowance
- Annual scrub allowance
- A supportive, team-oriented hospital environment
- Opportunity to have a meaningful voice in clinical workflow, team development, and hospital improvements
- Skilled growth and leadership development opportunities

Why This Role Is Different

This is an opportunity for an experienced RVT who loves clinical medicine but is also ready for more responsibility, greater influence, and a leadership role within the hospital.

You don't have to leave the treatment floor to grow your career.

If you are the person teammates naturally turn to for guidance, you enjoy mentoring others, and you take pride in creating an organized, positive, high-performing clinical environment, we would love to meet you.
