We’re looking for a detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter who combines financial analysis with practical judgment and a people-first approach. If you enjoy connecting the dots, asking thoughtful questions, and helping complex applications move forward, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
In this role, you’ll review financial information, assess risk, and communicate clearly with applicants, colleagues, and lending partners. Your work will support responsible lending decisions and help clients navigate the mortgage process with confidence.
What You’ll Do

- Analyze income, assets, liabilities, credit history, and other relevant information to assess repayment capacity and lending risk.
- Apply mathematical and accounting principles to evaluate financial information, identify discrepancies, and document findings.
- Assess applications against applicable lender requirements, policies, and regulatory standards.
- Identify potential challenges early and use sound judgment to recommend appropriate next steps.
- Clearly communicate documentation requirements, application updates, and underwriting findings.
- Use constructive negotiation and problem-solving skills to resolve questions and keep applications progressing.
- Maintain thorough, organized files while protecting confidential applicant information.
- Work closely with colleagues and lending partners to support timely, well-informed decisions.
What You Bring
- A current mortgage licence appropriate to the role in Ontario, or the ability to obtain the required licence within the first 60 days of hire.
- Strong data collection, financial analysis, and risk assessment skills.
- Confidence working with numbers and applying math and accounting principles.
- Careful attention to detail and the judgment to recognize when something needs a closer look.
- Clear, professional communication and the ability to explain requirements in straightforward language.
- Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple applications and competing deadlines.
- A collaborative approach, discretion, and a commitment to responsible lending.
- Experience in mortgage underwriting, financial services, or a related lending environment is preferred.
- Negotiation skills that support constructive conversations and productive resolution of application questions are an asset.
What We Offer
- Salary plus bonus.
- Health Spending Account (HSA).
- Company-provided cell phone and laptop.
- Two weeks of paid vacation.
- An in-person role in Hamilton, Ontario, with close collaboration and opportunities to contribute directly to the team’s success.
