The Opportunity

Westgrid Power buys, sells and brokers reconditioned transformers and switchgear for customers throughout Western Canada and beyond.

We are building a Western Canadian equipment trading operation and are looking for an experienced Equipment Trading Manager to take ownership of the buying and selling process.

This position is ideal for someone with established experience in electrical equipment, industrial machinery, utility surplus, auctions, equipment brokerage or electrical distribution who understands both the technical and commercial sides of a deal.

You will be the first dedicated hire on the Westgrid trading desk and will have the opportunity to play a significant role in building the business.

Key Responsibilities

- Source transformers, switchgear and related equipment through utilities, industrial facilities, plant decommissions, auctions, dealers, contractors and surplus channels
- Assess equipment condition, specifications and potential resale value
- Review nameplates, equipment specifications, test reports and available oil-analysis information
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, buyers, utilities, contractors, industrial customers and equipment dealers
- Respond to inbound customer inquiries and prepare timely quotes
- Negotiate pricing and commercial terms
- Close transactions and coordinate deposits and documentation
- Coordinate freight, rigging and reconditioning with partner organizations
- Maintain accurate records of opportunities, completed transactions and outcomes
- Identify new inventory sources and business-development opportunities throughout Western Canada and North America

What We’re Looking For

You may have experience as:





- A buyer or trader with a used electrical-equipment dealer or remanufacturing operation
- An outside sales representative within the electrical distribution industry
- An electrical wholesaler or branch manager
- An industrial or utility equipment specialist
- An auction or surplus-equipment professional
- An independent equipment broker
- An experienced industry skilled with an established network who wants the backing of an established infrastructure company

The successful candidate should be comfortable evaluating equipment, making commercial decisions independently and negotiating transactions where their judgment directly affects profitability.

Experience buying or selling transformers, switchgear, electrical equipment, heavy machinery or comparable industrial assets is strongly preferred.

Compensation

Base salary or contractor day rate (structured to fit your situation), plus a meaningful share of gross profit on every deal you close - a strong trader should see $130–180K+ in year one. If Westgrid scales into a full reconditioning operation, you're first in line to run it, with equity on the table.
