We're Hiring: Part-Time Occupational Therapist Addiction Recovery & Behavioural Coaching Organization: Midtown Therapy Group

Location:
Ontario – Virtual / Hybrid (Toronto) Position: Part time | Flexible Hours Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and employment arrangement About Midtown Therapy Group Midtown Therapy Group is an Ontario-based mental health practice committed to providing affordable, accessible, and evidence-aligned care. We specialize in practical, skills-based treatment that helps individuals develop healthier behaviours, improve emotional well-being, and create meaningful, sustainable changes in their lives. We are expanding our addiction recovery services and seeking a part-time Occupational Therapist (OT) with expertise in addictions and a strong interest in behavioural coaching.

About the Role
This is not a traditional occupational therapy position. We are seeking an OT who enjoys working directly with clients to bridge the gap between knowing what to do and consistently doing it. Many individuals struggling with substance use understand their recovery goals but have difficulty translating those goals into daily action. Challenges with motivation, executive functioning, emotional regulation, avoidance, and maintaining routines can interfere with progress. In this role, you will provide structured, individualized support that helps clients implement therapeutic strategies, build healthy routines, strengthen accountability, and maintain momentum in their recovery. You will work collaboratively with psychotherapists and other healthcare professionals, providing practical, recovery-focused occupational therapy and behavioural coaching that complements ongoing psychotherapy. A central component of the position involves supporting clients between psychotherapy sessions, helping them apply what they are learning in treatment to their everyday lives.

Key Responsibilities
Addiction Recovery & Behavioural Coaching
- Provide individualized, recovery-oriented occupational therapy and behavioural coaching for clients experiencing substance use challenges.
- Help clients establish daily structure, healthy routines, and meaningful activities that support recovery.
- Assist clients in translating therapeutic goals into concrete, achievable behavioural steps.
- Provide regular check-ins, encouragement, accountability, and progress monitoring.
- Support clients in recognizing barriers, managing setbacks, and maintaining engagement with recovery goals.

Practical Skills & Daily Functioning
- Support clients with executive functioning, planning, organization, time management, and follow-through.
- Help clients develop practical strategies for managing cravings, triggers, avoidance, and high-risk situations.
- Use behavioural activation, motivational interviewing, habit formation, and other evidence-informed approaches.
- Support the development of balanced routines involving sleep, self-care, work, relationships, recreation, and meaningful activities.
- Help clients develop greater independence and confidence in managing their daily lives. Collaboration & Treatment Implementation
- Collaborate with psychotherapists to reinforce and support individualized treatment goals.
- Help clients practise and implement strategies introduced during psychotherapy sessions.
- Identify obstacles to treatment adherence and develop practical solutions.
- Communicate relevant progress, challenges, and observations to the treatment team, with appropriate client consent.
- Document client progress and adjust interventions based on individual needs and outcomes. Required Qualifications
- Registered Occupational Therapist in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
- Clinical experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders or addiction-related challenges.
- Robust understanding of addiction recovery, relapse prevention, harm reduction, and behaviour change.
- Demonstrated ability to help clients establish goals, develop routines, and implement practical strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Comfortable providing virtual and in person services. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in coaching, including addiction recovery coaching, health coaching, executive functioning coaching, or behavioural coaching.
- Experience providing structured support between psychotherapy or other treatment sessions.

- Training or experience in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Experience working with clients who have ADHD, executive functioning challenges, or concurrent mental health concerns.
- Familiarity with structured goal-setting, accountability systems, habit formation, and progress monitoring.
- Experience delivering intensive outpatient or community-based addiction recovery services. Who We're Looking For Our ideal candidate is someone who:
- Enjoys helping people turn intentions into actions.
- Understands that successful addiction recovery requires more than insight — it requires consistent behavioural change and meaningful daily structure.

- Is resourceful, organized, proactive, and comfortable helping clients problem-solve real-life obstacles.
- Enjoys collaborating with psychotherapists while bringing a distinct occupational therapy perspective to treatment.
- Recognizes the importance of developing a meaningful life beyond substance use. We are particularly interested in candidates who appreciate the intersection of occupational therapy, addiction recovery, executive functioning, and behavioural coaching.

- Opportunities to collaborate with experienced psychotherapists and other healthcare professionals.
- A supportive, interdisciplinary treatment environment.
- The opportunity to help develop and shape a practical, coaching-oriented addiction recovery service.
