About Eye Recommend Eye Recommend supports independent optometry business owners across Canada through training, business services, supplier programs, events, digital tools, and member-focused resources. Our goal is to help independent practices operate more efficiently, make better decisions, and grow stronger businesses. We are looking for an Applications and Integrations Developer to help us support, maintain, and improve our business applications, integrations, reporting tools, and digital platforms. This role is suited for someone with practical backend development experience who enjoys solving technical problems, understanding how different systems work together, and building improvements to existing applications.

About the Role
The Applications and Integrations Developer will support and enhance the business systems that power Eye Recommend's digital environment, focusing on application development, technical troubleshooting, system integrations, and ongoing improvements. You will work across our existing applications, databases, and cloud environment to investigate issues, understand how systems communicate, and implement technical solutions. This includes making enhancements to existing features, improving workflows, and supporting integrations between platforms such as Salesforce, our member portal, and reporting systems. You will also work with our Technology team and external development partners on application enhancements, technical issues, and new platform initiatives. While some development work will involve external partners, you will take ownership of assigned enhancements. This includes writing and modifying code and independently implementing changes where appropriate. This role is ideal for someone with a solid development foundation who enjoys working with existing applications rather than focusing exclusively on building new software from scratch. You should be comfortable learning unfamiliar systems, troubleshooting issues, and gradually taking on greater technical ownership. You don't need to be an expert in every platform we use. We're looking for someone with strong technical fundamentals, practical development experience, and a willingness to learn and grow with our Technology team. What You Will Own *Application Development and Support
*
- Develop a thorough understanding of our backend applications, databases, APIs, and integration architecture.
- Write, modify, and maintain application code to implement enhancements across backend services, APIs, databases, and user interfaces.
- Develop and modify platform features to improve the member experience, enhance data systems, and streamline internal workflows.
- Investigate technical issues by reviewing application code, logs, API responses, database queries, and system configurations.
- Support and troubleshoot applications hosted in Microsoft Azure, including application errors, performance issues, and connectivity problems.
- Build smaller full-stack enhancements, scripts, and automations using JavaScript, Node.js, Python, SQL, or similar technologies.
- Support application deployments and troubleshoot configuration, environment, and deployment-related issues in collaboration with internal and external developers.
- Document technical findings, recommend improvements, and help maintain reliable application performance. Integrations, Data and Business Systems
- Support and troubleshoot integrations between Salesforce, the member portal, Strapi CMS, Auth0, reporting tools, and other business applications.

- Investigate failed data synchronizations, API failures, authentication errors, missing records, and inconsistencies across connected systems.
- Work with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, and existing integration processes to understand and improve how systems exchange information.
- Investigate data flows, including field mappings, data transformations, record matching, and validation between systems.
- Work with SQL databases to investigate issues, validate data, and support application enhancements.
- Support and gradually take greater ownership of Salesforce configurations, workflows, reporting, and integrations through hands-on experience and knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate with our external reporting partner on improvements and help maintain the accuracy and quality of Power BI reports and dashboards.
- Investigate integration failures and recommend improvements to error handling, monitoring, data accuracy, and reliability. *Technical Collaboration and Improvements
*
- Work with internal departments to understand business needs and translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Identify affected systems, technical dependencies, and expected functionality when planning application changes.
- Independently implement assigned enhancements and fixes while collaborating with external development partners on more complex changes.
- Coordinate technical dependencies, review expected functionality, and validate changes through testing.
- Document system dependencies, data flows, and technical solutions to build internal knowledge and support ongoing improvements. What We're Looking For
- Hands-on experience in backend development, application development, or a similar technical role.
- Strong working knowledge of JavaScript, Node.js, or comparable backend development technologies.
- Experience with SQL, relational databases, REST APIs, JSON, and system integrations.
- Ability to read, understand, troubleshoot, and modify existing application code.
- Experience developing enhancements to existing applications, including backend functionality, database changes, and API integrations.
- Ability to independently investigate technical issues using application logs, API responses, database queries, and debugging tools.
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted applications, preferably Microsoft Azure, including application troubleshooting, logs, and monitoring.
- Understanding of how frontend applications, backend services, databases, and integrations work together.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with a willingness to learn new technologies and take ownership of assigned work. We value practical technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to learn. You don't need experience with every platform we use, but you should have a solid development foundation and be comfortable learning and improving existing systems. Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Azure services such as Azure Container Apps, Azure SQL Database, Azure Service Bus, or Azure Functions.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and application deployments.

- Experience with Salesforce administration, Flows, Apex, or Salesforce integrations.
- Experience with Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, or data integration pipelines.
- Familiarity with React, TypeScript, Strapi, or other frontend and headless CMS technologies.
- Familiarity with Auth0, OAuth 2.0, Redis, message queues, or event-driven integrations.
- Experience with application monitoring, background processing, or troubleshooting production systems.
- Experience supporting production business applications or working with external development partners. What Success Looks Like Success in this role means developing a strong understanding of our business applications, independently resolving technical issues, and delivering practical enhancements that improve how our systems operate. You should be comfortable learning new systems, investigating technical challenges, collaborating with others, and taking initiative to move work forward. Over time, success may include:
- Independently investigating and resolving application, database, and integration issues.
- Developing and implementing improvements to existing features, workflows, and backend functionality.
- Understanding and documenting how our cloud-hosted applications, Salesforce environment, databases, and integrations work together, including key dependencies and data flows.
- Improving application reliability, data accuracy, and synchronization processes across connected systems.
- Gradually taking on greater technical ownership while collaborating with our Technology team and external development partners. Why Join Eye Recommend? This is an opportunity to apply your development skills across a variety of business applications, integrations, and digital platforms that support independent optometry practices across Canada. You'll join a small, collaborative Technology team where your contributions have a direct impact on both our internal operations and the experience of our members. Rather than focusing on a single application or technology, you'll have opportunities to work across backend development, cloud-hosted applications, databases, integrations, and business systems. You'll also have the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful development work, collaborate with experienced internal team members and external development partners, and expand your technical expertise as you grow into the role. We value curiosity, initiative, and practical problem-solving. If you enjoy understanding how systems work, improving existing applications, and seeing the results of your work, we'd love to hear from you.
