Plan of Action Accounting
Calgary
Overview Plan of Action Accounting is seeking an experienced, highly organized Senior Full-Cycle Bookkeeper & Tax Preparer to join our team. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional with solid accounting knowledge who can independently manage multiple client files, review and correct bookkeeping completed by other staff, prepare year-end working papers, and ensure files are accurate, organized, and ready for final review. The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, and thorough. They take ownership of their work, investigate discrepancies, review existing client information and correspondence before requesting missing documents, and follow through on outstanding matters without constant supervision. Strong experience with QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online is required. Experience with Profile tax software and Canadian T1 and T2 preparation is preferred. This is a senior-level position, not a junior bookkeeping or data-entry role. We require someone with substantial hands-on full-cycle bookkeeping experience who can independently review, organize, troubleshoot, and bring client files through to completion. Duties & Responsibilities
- Independently manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple corporate and small-business clients.
- Review bookkeeping completed by other staff, identify errors and omissions, and ensure files are accurate and complete.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, GST, payroll liabilities, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Review general ledgers, investigate discrepancies, and prepare adjusting journal entries.
- Prepare year-end financial statements, working papers, supporting schedules, and adjusting entries for accountant review.
- Prepare and reconcile GST/HST returns, ensuring amounts agree with the accounting records.
- Process payroll, calculate source deductions, prepare remittances, and complete T4 and T4A filings.
- Prepare T1 personal and T2 corporate income tax returns using Profile tax software, depending on experience.
- Thoroughly review client emails, correspondence, uploaded documents, and existing records before requesting missing information.
- Identify outstanding information, maintain organized follow-up lists, and ensure client requests and correspondence are addressed.
- Proactively investigate and resolve bookkeeping and accounting issues rather than leaving incomplete items for final review.
- Maintain organized client files with clear working papers and supporting documentation.
- Communicate professionally with clients and CRA as required.
- Manage multiple client files, prioritize deadlines, and follow through on outstanding matters.
- Take ownership of assigned files and ensure they are fully reconciled, organized, and ready for final accountant review. Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on Canadian full-cycle bookkeeping experience required.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online required.
- Experience independently completing corporate bookkeeping files, including reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, year-end working papers, and financial statements.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounts, balance sheets, income statements, and accounting principles.
- Experience reviewing bookkeeping completed by other staff, identifying discrepancies, and making necessary corrections.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GST/HST, payroll, source deductions, remittances, and year-end reporting.
- Experience managing multiple corporate and small-business client files simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to review client correspondence, track outstanding information, and ensure all available documentation has been accounted for before requesting additional records.
- Experience preparing Canadian T1 personal and T2 corporate income tax returns; experience with Profile tax software preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to independently investigate and resolve issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to professionally follow up with clients regarding outstanding information.
- Ability to prioritize deadlines, take initiative, and follow through on files without constant supervision.
- Previous experience in a Canadian public accounting firm strongly preferred. A CPA designation is not required. Practical experience, sound accounting knowledge, and the demonstrated ability to independently complete and review client files are essential.
