Company Overview
Function is how you manage your lifelong health. The mission is to empower 8 billion people to live 100 healthy years. We've created a new category in health. Named a TIME100 Most Influential Company. Raised $350M from investors ranging from a16z to Kevin Hart. We started with lab testing three years ago and are quickly building a full-stack health system.
Function now reaches over a million people owning their health in a new way — far beyond biohackers and health nuts. It's popular coast to coast, across a wide range of incomes. Function is $1 a day, for what could otherwise cost thousands and be accessible only to a select few.
We're growing our team very selectively. World-class talent only. You must be driven by the mission to materially impact how people live globally. The right person has a bias toward action and a growth mindset. There's no time to waste, and hard work is required. The reward is career-defining purpose and upside.
Role
Function Health is hiring a Director, Strategy and Operations to serve as the strategic and operational engine behind the Marketing & Communications organization. This role is part chief of staff, part strategist, part operator: you'll own the planning cadence, budget, and prioritization process for the function, build the systems and tools that let the team move fast,
and act as a trusted thought partner to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. You'll bring order and rigor to a fast-moving, high-visibility organization — without slowing down the creativity and speed that make it work.
What You'll Own
Strategic Planning & Operating Rhythm
- Own the annual and quarterly planning process for Marketing & Communications — goals, priorities, and resourcing — in partnership with the CMCO and function leads.
- Establish and run the operating cadence for the organization: leadership team meetings, quarterly business reviews, all-hands, and prioritization reviews.
- Translate strategy into clear execution plans, timelines, and accountability across Brand, Communications, Talent & Creator, Social, and Creative.
Budget & Resource Management
- Own budget planning, tracking, and reporting for the Marketing & Communications organization, partnering with Finance on forecasting and reconciliation.
- Manage vendor and agency contracts, procurement, and spend governance across the function.
- Build the business case and resourcing plan for new initiatives, tools, and hires.
Systems, Data & Reporting
- Own the marketing and communications technology stack — evaluating, implementing, and administering the tools that keep the team efficient.
- Build dashboards and reporting that connect marketing and communications activity to brand and business outcomes for the CMCO and executive team.
- Design scalable processes for intake, prioritization, and cross-team workflow as the organization grows.
Executive & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Serve as a strategic thought partner and de facto chief of staff to the CMCO — preparing briefings, board and executive materials, and key talking points.
- Represent Marketing & Communications in cross-company planning, ensuring alignment with Product, Sales, CS, and other functions.
- Anticipate needs, unblock issues, and keep major initiatives moving across a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
Team Leadership
- Build and lead the Strategy & Operations function over time as the organization scales.
- Set the standard for operational excellence and rigor across the broader Marketing & Communications team.
What You'll Bring
- 8+ years in strategy and operations, marketing operations, business operations, or management consulting, ideally supporting a marketing, communications, or brand organization.
- Proven experience owning planning cadences, budgets, and cross-functional prioritization for a fast-moving team.
- Robust analytical and financial acumen; comfortable building models, dashboards, and business cases.
- Experience evaluating and managing a marketing or communications technology stack.
- An AI first trusted operator and advisor to senior executives, with the judgment and discretion to work close to leadership.
- Excellent program and project management skills, with the ability to drive multiple complex workstreams at once.
- Strong
