About the job

Location: HQ in Alberta, fully remote anywhere in Canada. Saskatchewan or Alberta is a plus, since that is where most of the current field work is.

Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Flexible. Our clients are in every province and territory, so some give-and-take on time zones comes with the job.

Travel: Field work and community travel are part of this role. Expect field seasons in late spring and early summer, at least one winter leaf-off season, and regular time in community for engagement and plan presentations.

Start here

- We don’t need someone to make decks that sit in a folder. We need someone who can design a plan and get the thing built. The kind of person who turns “we’ve been talking about this for ten years” into “the trees went in the ground this spring.”
- Once a Nation’s funding is approved, you own it. You run the project to completion, keep Eve, our delivery platform, current, and keep the Nation informed. Some days you’ll be on a call with Chief and Council. Some days you’ll be in a stand with a forester and a GPS unit. Every day, you’re the reason the work in front of them is solid and on schedule.
- You step into a live portfolio on day one: six community forest and climate resilience plans across four provinces, a forest stewardship framework, a traditional territory conservation plan, a community energy plan, three fire stewardship plans and a climate risk and adaptation plan. Forestry is also our first service line beyond grants, so this is an early role on a small team with real room to grow into leading it.

About us

- melyn helps First Nations across Canada plan, fund, and build. Housing, infrastructure, governance, economic development, forests and lands, the grants that pay for all of it, and the software that ties it together. We build long plans, win real funding, and stick around to deliver. When the work goes well, a community gets housing, a Nation owns a business, and a Council leads with confidence.

What you’d do

- Run your own client engagements end to end in alignment with the funded proposal: scope it, plan it, deliver it on time without anyone chasing you
- Be the person your clients talk to: build the relationship, run the calls, and keep Chief, Council, lands and forestry staff moving
- Lead the thinking and writing on the big pieces:

community forest and canopy plans, climate resilience and adaptation plans, fire stewardship plans, conservation plans, forest stewardship frameworks and community energy plans
- Build and run the technical core of each plan: GIS and canopy mapping, climate and growth modelling, field inventory protocols, species and site selection, planting and maintenance schedules
- Plan and lead field seasons with a contracted Registered Professional Forester, Nation staff and youth crews, and keep field days to the budget
- Proactively communicate internally with leadership and team mates to ensure the project keeps moving and stays on schedule
- Build budgets and financial models that hold up in front of Council, a funder, and an auditor
- Know what your funder expects: milestones, reporting, claims, and close out, and deliver on them
- Help shape forestry as a paid service line: what we offer, what it costs, and who we partner with

What we’re looking for

- Three or so years in forestry, urban forestry, climate adaptation, land or environmental planning, natural resource consulting, or project management on land-based work. Have less, but real drive and a track record of getting things done? We’d still like to hear from you.
- A history of delivering hard things on time, running clients directly, and keeping several projects moving at once
- Working GIS skills (QGIS or ArcGIS) and comfort with inventory, canopy or climate data. You can turn a field dataset and a model into a map a Council understands.
- Strong writing and comfort with numbers. You can take a complex project and write five pages a Council or funder can act on, with a budget that survives scrutiny.
- Physically ready for field work: full days outdoors, uneven ground, weather, and travel to remote communities
- Steady in a room with senior people, and you don’t wait around to be told what to do
- Real respect for Indigenous self-determination, governance,

and OCAP principles, and the humility to keep learning

Bonus points

- RPF, RPFT, or Forester in Training with any Canadian forestry regulator. If you hold a registration in one province, melyn pays the transfer and dues in the others.
- Experience with federal and municipal climate and tree programs.
- Past work with or for First Nations, Métis, or Inuit communities, organizations, or governments
- Experience with i-Tree, carbon accounting, silviculture prescriptions, wildfire risk assessment or community energy planning
- PMP, or a strong head for project management
- Comfort with AI tools or building processes that help you work faster

Who you are

- You own every project end to end. Outreach goes out without anyone prompting you, updates land every week, and nothing sits waiting on you. When a Nation asks for something, it’s back to them within a couple of days or they know why.
- You are as comfortable on a quad in October as in a Council chamber in February, and you know which one the plan needs that week.
- You pick up new tools and new ways of working fast, and you would rather learn a better process this month than defend the old one next year. The mapping, the modelling runs and the report drafts are already automated here. Your job is what the data means for that forest, the call you make in the field, and a plan the Nation can act on.
- This is a fast paced, high output team. You solve availability gaps rather than explain them, because slow turnaround on Nation work costs trust. You want to look back in a few years and point at real things that exist because you made them happen.

What you get

- An annual bonus tied to company success and your own performance
- Health, dental and life coverage, adaptable time off, and a vacation entitlement that grows with your tenure
- Professional registration fees, transfers and dues paid, and field gear covered
- Credit for what you ship, not how long you’ve been at it
- A team of experts to learn from and lean on, and a real path to leading as we grow
- Fully remote, work from anywhere in Canada, with travel and field costs paid in full
- A real platform behind you: melynBrain, our grant tools, an analyst bench, and document pipelines that take the grunt work off your plate
