Looking for an atmosphere of trust, empowerment, respect, diversity, and communication? People come to work at Microchip because we help design the technology that runs the world. We take pride in our commitment to employee development, values-based decision making, and solid sense of community, driven by our Vision, Mission, and 11 Guiding Values; we affectionately refer to it as the Aggregate System and it’s won us countless awards for diversity and workplace excellence. we did not achieve record revenue and over 30 years of quarterly profitability without a great team dedicated to empowering innovation. Join the Design Engineering team as Principal Engineer-Design supporting semiconductor architecture, RTL and circuit design, integration, verification, performance, power, area, documentation, and product lifecycle. This role is best suited for candidates with 10 or more years of relevant experience in semiconductor or electronic design, RTL, digital or mixed-signal circuits, architecture, simulation, synthesis, integration, or a closely related area. In this role, you will define advanced technical direction, architectures, methodologies, and reusable solutions within an approved domain, partner with relevant technical and business stakeholders, and help deliver reliable, high-quality engineering or service outcomes and continuous improvement.
Develop and sustain semiconductor architectures, RTL, circuits, IP, interfaces, subsystems, and design collateral.
Translate product, system, performance, power, area, reliability, test, manufacturing, and schedule needs into design requirements and plans.
Analyze specifications, simulations, timing, power, area, integration, defects, risks, dependencies, and technical tradeoffs.
Debug design, simulation, integration, verification, implementation, and product issues; lead root-cause analysis within approved scope.
Review requirements, architectures, RTL, circuits, models, constraints,
results, changes, and release evidence for technical quality.
Drive design reuse, automation, quality, reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Coordinate outcomes across architecture, design, verification, DFT, implementation, package, product, test, manufacturing, and CAD teams.
Maintain specifications, design records, review evidence, configuration, and lifecycle documentation.
Minimum qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field with 10 or more years of relevant experience in semiconductor or electronic design, RTL, digital or mixed-signal circuits, architecture, simulation, synthesis, integration, or a closely related area. Qualified candidates should demonstrate analytical thinking, structured problem solving, technical ownership, clear communication, technical documentation, cross-functional collaboration, quality focus, and sound judgment in design engineering work. Experience with semiconductor, ASIC, SoC, FPGA, digital, analog, mixed-signal, memory, interface, or IP design.
Experience with RTL, simulation, synthesis, timing, power, verification, scripting, EDA tools, or design automation.
Experience with architecture, integration, design reviews, technical leadership, or product development.
Working knowledge of various on-chip interconnect protocols (APB, AXI, AHB etc) and external peripheral protocols (I2C, SPI, UART etc) Knowledge of PCI-express Gen-6 or latest Gen-7 Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
