Business Development Representative (BDR): Warm Leads, Discovery, and Closing Intrigue Media Solutions Inc.
- Full-time
- OTE 70,000 to 100,000 CAD, uncapped commission
- Hybrid: 2 to 3 days per week in our office at 412 Laird Road, Guelph, Ontario
- This posting is for an existing vacancy. Why this role Intrigue is a Canadian digital marketing agency that works only with landscape and green industry companies across North America, and we're scaling. Great Place to Work named us one of the Best Workplaces in Canada and Ontario in 2025 and again in 2026. Here's why that matters if you can sell: our marketing works. It does the heavy lifting on prospecting and lead generation, so your time goes into real sales conversations, not cold lists.
- Warm pipeline. Our ads, lead magnets and events produce marketing-qualified leads a week. You spend your day talking to owners who already know us, not building lists.
- You close. You run discovery and sell our first paid product yourself, with commission on every sale.
- Great people to sell to. Landscape owners are hardworking, down-to-earth and straight-talking. Many built their businesses with their own hands, and they're some of the best people you'll ever have on the phone.
- One decision-maker. You sell to the owner. No buying committees, no six-month cycles.
- Room to grow. We're scaling the sales team, with a defined path to Account Executive.
- A fast process. About two weeks from application to decision.
About the role
Your job is to qualify the leads our marketing generates and run deep, consultative discovery calls with landscape business owners. You'll get past the gatekeeper, learn how the owner's business runs and where growth is stuck, and work out whether a Marketing Action Plan (MAP), priced from 500 to 3,000 USD/CAD, is the right next step. When it is, you sell it and hand the client to an Account Executive and Account Manager. Owners haven't asked for your call that day, so you need to be comfortable making the first move and hearing "no".
What you'll do
- Call marketing-qualified leads from our campaigns and lead magnets, and qualify them for fit,
including revenue (our clients typically run $750K to $10M+).
- Get past gatekeepers to the owner, who is the buyer and decision-maker.
- Run discovery calls that uncover the owner's goals and problems before you pitch.
- Position and sell the MAP, and handle the objections that come with asking a busy owner to commit.
- Hand sold clients to our Account Executives and Account Managers with clear notes.
- Follow up persistently by phone, voicemail and email, and keep Salesforce accurate.
- Share what you hear on calls with our sales and marketing teams. What success looks like After 2 to 4 weeks of onboarding and training, you'll reach 4 to 6 booked discovery calls per week within your first two months, then hold that pace. What you bring
- 2+ years in a target-carrying sales role (SDR, BDR, inside sales, account executive or similar), with numbers you can share: quota attainment, call volume, deals closed.
- Experience running your own discovery calls and closing deals.
- Skill at getting past gatekeepers to the decision-maker.
- Comfort talking about money with business owners: their revenue, their budget, and asking them to buy.
- Steady results over many months, not one robust quarter.
- Coachability. We'll teach you our process; you apply feedback quickly.
- Comfort in Salesforce or a similar CRM.
- An asset: experience selling to owner-operators, trades, home services or landscape companies. Compensation and benefits
- Base
salary:
$40,000 to $55,000 CAD
- On-target earnings: 70,000 to 100,000 CAD. Commission is uncapped and paid on every MAP you sell.
- Health coverage and other benefits
- Ongoing sales training and one-on-one coaching Our values We hire for our CFLLATT values: Client, Fun, Leadership, Learning, Action, Team and Trust. In this role, that means owning your number,
learning from every "no", and booking opportunities that genuinely help the right owner grow. Our team backs that up: 94% of our employees say Intrigue is a great place to work, in Great Place to Work's employee survey. How we hire We keep it short and respect your time:
- Resume review. You'll hear from us within 2 business days.
- Online sales assessment (about 30 minutes). It measures sales skill objectively, which is how we skip a long interview loop. Please complete it within 3 days of your invite.
- 15-minute screening call.
- 60-minute interview, including a live sales roleplay. You'll have a decision within about two weeks of applying. Use of AI: Intrigue uses artificial intelligence to help screen and assess applicants, including resume review, assessment scoring and the sales roleplay. Real people review every result, and real people make all hiring decisions. Vacancy: This posting is for an existing vacancy. *Accessibility and Inclusion
