The Complex Claim Director is a lawyer handling Financial Lines claims of moderate severity or complexity. You investigate coverage, evaluate losses, negotiate resolutions, and communicate legal advice to claims, underwriting, and other stakeholders. The work spans cyber, directors’ and officers’ liability, employment practices, fidelity and crime, and miscellaneous skilled liability policies.
Key Responsibilities: Evaluate and dispose of moderate to high-severity claims
Draft coverage letters, reservations, releases, and settlement agreements
Negotiate liability, damages, and coverage resolutions
Retain, monitor,



and manage outside litigation counsel
Provide legal research supporting underwriting and claim decisions
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor or LLB required
Current law qualification in the province of employment
Excellent written and verbal French and English communication
Three years’ lawyer or claims-handling experience minimum
MS Office proficiency and strong technical aptitude
Bring legal judgment, Financial Lines knowledge, and settlement expertise to Definity’s complex claims and underwriting relationships.
