TOOL AND DIE MANAGER — AUTOMOTIVE STAMPING
Tillsonburg, Ontario | Permanent, full-time
Our client is a leading automotive metal stamping manufacturer, part of a large, vertically integrated North American steel and stamping group. Their Tillsonburg facility is a high-volume cold stamping operation running progressive and transfer dies across three shifts, supplying structural components to major automotive programs.
They’re looking for a Tool and Die Manager to own the tooling function — the person responsible for keeping dies running, the shop staffed and trained, and new tooling delivered on time and capable.
What you’d own
- Daily operations of the tool and die shop: die repair, maintenance, and scheduling across a three-shift production operation
- Leadership of the tooling team — ensuring tool and die makers and apprentices are trained, qualified and supported
- Tooling capability from design review through production release: selecting optimum tool layouts, press size and vendor; approving final designs before manufacture
- Working with die suppliers to improve out-of-the-box reliability on recent and replacement tooling
- Reviewing tooling performance data to drive productivity, quality and reliability improvements
- Supporting engineering and sales at the quoting stage with accurate tooling input
- Reporting die shop KPIs at daily production meetings and in monthly and annual plans
- Keeping production and sales informed on tooling issues and timelines
- Continuously identifying improvements in cost, quality, customer service, health and safety and plant operations
What they’re looking for
- Certificate of Qualification in Tool and Die Making, or an equivalent related trade
- Minimum five years in cold stamping with progressive and transfer dies — ten years preferred
- Minimum five years of technical and mechanical trades experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated leadership of a tooling or die shop team
- Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable in a high-volume automotive environment
What’s offered
- Competitive compensation with a variable component
- Comprehensive health benefits, retirement plan with employer contribution, education assistance, paid time off
- Career advancement within a large, stable organization with a strong promote-from-within culture
If you’re a licensed tool and die maker who’s moved into running a shop — or a senior lead hand ready to — I’d like to hear from you.
