Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic

The Opportunity

We’re a family-run business in beautiful Kaslo, BC, looking for an experienced, self-motivated Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team.

As a small-town shop, we work on a bit of everything—from heavy equipment and logging trucks to commercial vehicles, trailers, pickups, and passenger vehicles. We’re looking for someone dependable, resourceful, and comfortable working independently, with the experience and judgment to diagnose problems, prioritize jobs, and see repairs through to completion.

Responsibilities

- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, logging trucks, commercial vehicles, trailers, and light-duty vehicles.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
- Work with hydraulic systems, air brakes, and related components.
- Use schematics, hand tools, and power tools to identify and resolve issues.
- Complete welding, equipment assembly, and other repairs as required.
- Identify parts and materials needed for repairs.
- Manage workload, prioritize jobs, and assist with shop workflow and organization.
- Communicate professionally with customers and colleagues about repairs and equipment condition.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Assist with general automotive work, including seasonal tire changes.

Qualifications

Required

- Red Seal or BC Trade Qualification (TQ)



as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Commercial Transport Mechanic.
- Approximately 10 years of experience.
- Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, efficiently, and safely.
- Valid driver's licence.

Assets

- Commercial Vehicle Authorized Inspector Certificate.
- Air brake certification or a Class 1 or Class 3 license with air brake endorsement.
- Experience with logging trucks, forestry equipment, excavators, cranes, forklifts, Caterpillar machinery, farm machinery, or other industrial equipment.
- Experience with welding, electrical systems, HVAC, or automotive repairs.
- Experience coordinating shop workflow or working in a dealership workplace.

Pay: $29.94-$55.75 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
