Growing Tykes Learning Centre is looking for a reliable, organized, and dedicated Cook to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children enrolled at our daycare, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, managing food inventory, and ensuring all food safety requirements are followed.

Responsibilities

- Prepare and serve nutritious, balanced meals and snacks according to the centre's menu.
- Ensure all meals are prepared according to children's food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special dietary needs.
- Carefully review and follow children's allergy and food restriction lists to prevent cross-contamination and ensure safe meal preparation.
- Monitor food inventory and maintain adequate supplies of groceries and kitchen essentials.
- Prepare and submit grocery and food orders as needed to ensure supplies are available on time.
- Check food deliveries for accuracy, quality, and freshness, and store items appropriately.
- Monitor food expiry dates and ensure proper food rotation and storage.
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and sanitary at all times, including countertops, appliances, equipment, utensils, and food storage areas.




- Follow daily cleaning and sanitizing schedules and maintain all required cleaning and food safety logs.
- Follow proper food handling, preparation, storage, and temperature-control procedures.
- Comply with Toronto Public Health requirements and all applicable food safety guidelines.
- Communicate with management regarding inventory needs, equipment issues, and any food safety concerns.
- Work collaboratively with the childcare team to support children's health, nutrition, and well-being.

Qualifications

- Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a daycare or childcare setting, is an asset.
- Valid Food Handler Certification required.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, food allergies, and dietary restrictions.
- Robust organizational and inventory management skills.
- Ability to plan food orders and manage kitchen supplies efficiently.
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized kitchen throughout the workday.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently.
