Employment Prospect
Position: HIPPY Home Visitor
Hours: Part-time, 25 hrs/week
Location: Hybrid
Compensation: $25.50
Contract Length: October 2026 to July 2027
We are looking for a HIPPY Home Visitor who is a relationship builder first and a teacher at heart. You will spend your days with newcomer and refugee families in their homes, helping parents discover that they are their child’s first and most important teacher, and watching children grow more ready for school week by week.
This role is for you if you love connecting with people across cultures, want to see the difference your work makes, and believe families already bring strengths worth building on. You will join a warm, supportive team where you learn together and no one does this work alone.
Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) is a community-based, non-profit organization serving immigrant and refugee women and their young children since 1975. PIRS delivers accessible, inclusive, low-barrier programs for immigrant and refugee women and their children that create a sense of belonging, meaningful participation and leadership.
The purpose of the HIPPY Home Visitor position is to support families with children ages 3 to 5 through the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) Program.
What You'll Do
- Visit and support families. Meet with families in their homes each week, share HIPPY learning activities through role play and conversation, and encourage parents as they build learning into everyday family life.
- Build trust and connection. Get to know each family, listen to what they need, and connect them with community resources and services that help them settle and thrive.
- Bring families together. Help plan and run group meetings, family events, field trips and celebrations where parents build friendships and community.
- Keep the program strong. Maintain participant records and program documentation, take part in training, team meetings and professional development, and represent PIRS at community outreach events.
What you bring to the role
- Experience working with families, children or community programs, whether paid, volunteer or within your own community
- Lived experience of raising or caring for young children, or of settling in a new country, which helps you connect with families in ways no training can
- A natural ability to encourage and motivate people, and to build positive, trusting relationships
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organizational and time-management skills, including managing your own visit schedule
- Flexibility, patience and openness when working with families from many cultures and backgrounds
- High school diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Attitudes and values aligned with the goals and philosophy of PIRS
Why Join PIRS?
- Make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families
- Work within a supportive, multicultural team environment
- Receive ongoing training and professional development
- Help newcomer and refugee families thrive in their communities
Working Conditions
- Contract part-time position (25 hours/week), dependent on program funding
- Community-based work involving home visits, outreach, and group activities
- Regular travel throughout the service area
- Regular home visits with families in a variety of home environments
- Occasional evening and weekend activities
- Criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check is required
To Apply:
Please apply including both a cover letter and resume via the applicable job portal, or directly via the PIRS career site.
We thank everyone for their interest. Only those shortlisted will be contacted.
