About the role
Soda Laundry is a modern, fully attended laundromat and professional laundry service in downtown Toronto. We're looking for a friendly, detail-oriented attendant to welcome customers, accurately process orders, care for clothing and maintain a clean store. This is a hands-on frontline position: you follow established procedures and escalate unusual decisions or problems to the supervisor.
Customer service & front counter
- Welcome customers, explain self-service, wash-and-fold and dry cleaning services, and assist customers with washers and dryers.
- Receive, weigh, label and record drop-off orders and customer instructions using the POS/laundry management system; process routine payments and retail sales.
- Respond to ordinary inquiries and special requests; refer refund decisions, damage claims and escalated complaints to the supervisor.
Order handling & daily coordination
- Track assigned orders through processing and prepare accurate, clearly labelled orders for customer collection or delivery handoff.
- Communicate order progress and handover notes to coworkers, following established daily priorities and promised completion times.
Laundry processing & quality
- Sort, wash, dry, fold and package residential and commercial laundry, keeping individual customer orders separate.
- Use appropriate cycles, water temperatures, detergents and drying methods based on common care labels and approved operating procedures.
- Recognize items needing special attention and seek guidance before treating unusual stains, delicate fabrics or unclear care instructions.
- Inspect completed items for cleanliness, order accuracy, folding quality and presentation; report defects or missing items promptly.
Store upkeep & teamwork
- Clean and organize counters, folding areas, carts and customer areas; complete checklists and restock detergents and packaging supplies.
- Follow equipment safety and cleaning procedures,
report machine faults promptly and support colleagues during busy periods.
Required qualifications
- Customer-facing experience in retail, hospitality or a comparable service environment, with clear spoken and written English for customer service and order records.
- Practical knowledge of everyday clothing care, including sorting, garment labels, fabric differences and choosing cold, warm or hot water appropriately.
- Good organizational skills, accuracy, reliability, comfort using computer-based systems and willingness to learn our POS.
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods, safely push and pull laundry carts weighing up to 23 kg, and work some weekends.
Nice to have
Experience in a laundromat, laundry service or dry cleaning business; POS/order management familiarity; experience in a busy retail environment. Professional laundry experience is not essential; training on Soda Laundry equipment and procedures is provided.
