Description
Are you Ready to Build the Future of AI Infrastructure?
If you're energized by massive scale, deep technical complexity, and the opportunity to shape the next era of compute, this is your moment. Join a team where groundbreaking work meets competitive compensation, meaningful impact, and a chance to accelerate your career at the forefront of AI innovation. We want to meet you.
Why IREN?
IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN's platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way: responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
This position is based in office in Prince George, BC, supporting the construction expansion at our operating data center site. The site runs day and night shifts; this role is day-shift based with a rotational schedule to be confirmed with the successful candidate.
The Role
The LOTO Specialist owns the hazardous energy control program for construction work at our operating Prince George data center. Expansion work runs alongside live electrical, mechanical, and cooling systems, and this role is the gatekeeper that keeps the two safely separated: planning and authorizing isolations, verifying zero-energy state, controlling permits and lock application,
and coordinating every tie-in and energization with site operations and the discipline superintendents. Reporting to the Construction Manager with functional oversight from HSE and site operations, you make sure nobody works on a system that is not proven dead, and nobody energizes a system that is not proven ready.
Requirements
- LOTO Program Ownership: Implement and maintain the site Lockout/Tagout and hazardous energy control procedures for construction scope in accordance with WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation Part 10, CSA Z460, and IREN site standards.
- Isolation Planning & Permitting: Develop isolation plans and energy control procedures for each tie-in, shutdown, and energization; issue, track, and close isolation permits and lock registers.
- Verification: Perform and document zero-energy verification (test-before-touch) with authorized personnel before work begins; witness lock application and removal.
- Live-Site Coordination: Coordinate all isolation and energization windows with site operations, the Electrical and Mechanical Superintendents, commissioning, and contractors so construction never compromises operating infrastructure.
- Training & Authorization: Deliver LOTO orientation for IREN crews and contractors, maintain the authorized and affected employee lists, and audit contractor LOTO programs for alignment.
- Inspection & Audit: Conduct routine field audits of locks, tags, and isolation points; investigate and report any LOTO non-conformance and drive corrective actions.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain the master isolation register, lock inventory, permit logs, and energy control procedure library; report weekly on LOTO activity and incidents to project leadership and HSE.
- Energization Support: Support structured energization and switching plans during commissioning, ensuring every step is permitted, verified, and recorded.
