About the role

Next Dimension operates a carrier-grade network with points of presence in Toronto, Windsor, and Chicago, connected by a mesh DWDM backbone. We are hiring a Senior Network Engineer to work alongside our Network Services Lead supporting that network: the MPLS Segment Routing core, customer last-mile provisioning, monitoring and capacity, and the automation that provisions and maintains our routers.

This is a hands-on service provider role, with some enterprise LAN support. You will be a primary engineering resource on the backbone, a Tier 3 escalation point for routing and transport incidents, and a contributor to the registry, routing security, and DNS hygiene that keeps a public ASN healthy. You will be working from office, remotely, with occasional onsite work required in our Data Centres and POP locations as well as customer locations.

What you will do

- Support and evolve our SR-MPLS / SR-TE core across Toronto, Windsor, and Chicago, working with the Network Services Lead on design, change, and capacity decisions
- Operate a multi-OS backbone: Cisco NCS (IOS XR), Cisco ASR (IOS XE), Cisco Nexus 9K (NX-OS), and 6WIND vBR virtual border routers, all participating in the same Segment Routing domain
- Maintain external routing policy on peering and transit edges, including BGP communities, prefix filtering, and Noction route optimization
- Provision customer last-mile connectivity end-to-end: circuit design, carrier coordination, handoff, VLAN/QoS configuration, turn-up, and documentation
- Implement and troubleshoot QoS policy across the core and customer edge
- Manage IP address allocation and subnetting for the network and customer assignments

- Maintain our service provider administrative footprint: ARIN resource management and reassignments (SWIP), IRR objects in RADb, RPKI ROAs, PeeringDB, IP geolocation database and Geofeed updates, and authoritative and reverse DNS
- Build and maintain monitoring and alerting for the backbone (SNMP, streaming telemetry, flow data), and act on capacity and performance trends before they become incidents
- Develop automation for device provisioning and configuration management (Python, Ansible, NETCONF/YANG or similar), with the goal of eliminating hand-built configurations
- Provide Tier 3 escalation for backbone, routing, transport incidents, customer interconnection issues, and contribute to post-incident reviews
- Produce and keep current network diagrams, runbooks, change records, and standard operating procedures (ITIL-aligned change management)
- Mentor intermediate technical staff and service desk on service provider routing and operations
- Participate in the on-call rotation supporting a 24x7x365 network

Required qualifications

- 5+ years of hands-on experience operating a service provider or carrier network (ISP, WISP, data centre operator, or MSP running its own ASN), or 8+ years in enterprise network engineering with demonstrable OSPF/BGP/VRF depth
- Expert-level OSPF and BGP, including policy, communities, route reflection, and troubleshooting at scale
- Production experience with MPLS Segment Routing (SR-MPLS) and traffic engineering (SR-TE or RSVP-TE)
- Hands-on experience with at least two of Cisco IOS XR, IOS XE, and NX-OS, and the ability to work comfortably across all three
