About Comfort Zone Products Ltd. and The Foam Shop:

The Foam Shop has been providing foam products and custom comfort solutions since 1974. We specialize in custom cushions, mattresses, upholstery products, and a wide range of made-to-order projects.

We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Fabric Cutter to join our upholstery production team in Burnaby.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with fabric, has good measuring and mathematical skills, and takes pride in producing accurate, quality work.

Previous fabric-cutting or related production experience is strongly preferred. However, we are also willing to train an exceptional candidate with transferable skills and a strong willingness to learn.

What You'll Be Doing

Working alongside our experienced Production Manager and professional seamstress team, your primary responsibility will be measuring, preparing, and cutting fabric components for custom upholstery projects.

Responsibilities include:

- Reviewing customer work orders, production work orders, measurements, and cutting instructions.
- Laying out, measuring, marking, and accurately cutting fabric.
- Preparing fabric panels and other components for cushion covers.
- Following established patterns and interpreting custom measurements and specifications.
- Recognizing fabric grain, nap, pile direction, and pattern orientation.
- Aligning stripes, prints, and repeating patterns where required.

- Inspecting fabric for defects before cutting.
- Planning cutting layouts to minimize material waste.
- Checking finished cut pieces for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintaining an organized, clean, and safe work area.
- Communicating with the Production Manager regarding questions, discrepancies, or material concerns.

Please note: This position focuses on fabric cutting and preparation. Sewing is not required. Our seamstress team handles all sewing and assembly.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

- Previous experience in fabric cutting, textile manufacturing, or a similar hands-on production environment.
- Strong measuring skills, basic mathematical ability, and attention to detail.
- The ability to read and follow written instructions, measurements, patterns, and templates.
- An understanding of fabric characteristics and pattern alignment.
- Valuable hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a team.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a robust work ethic.
- Good English communication skills.
- A willingness to learn, accept feedback, and follow established procedures.

Direct upholstery fabric-cutting experience is an advantage, but we encourage applicants with relevant transferable skills to apply.

Training & Development

We understand that not every candidate will have experience with custom upholstery products.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Production Manager, who brings approximately 30 years of fabric-cutting and sewing expertise.

Training will be provided on our products, materials, patterns, cutting techniques, equipment, and production procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in garment production, textiles, or another precision-oriented trade to develop their skills in custom upholstery manufacturing.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on production role involving:

- Standing for extended periods.
- Repetitive measuring, marking, and cutting.
- Handling and positioning fabric rolls and production materials.
- Working with hand tools and powered cutting equipment.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a structured wage progression:

- Starting wage: $21.00 per hour
- After 3 months: $22.00 per hour
- After 6 months: $23.00 per hour
- After 1 year: $24.00 per hour

Additional details:

- Full time, permanent employment.
- Monday to Friday schedule.
- 40 paid hours per week.
- One 30-minute unpaid meal break per shift.
- Medical and dental advantages plan eligibility after one year of employment, subject to plan terms and enrollment requirements.

How to Apply

If you enjoy hands-on work, have an eye for detail, and take pride in producing accurate, quality workmanship, we would like to hear from you.

Please submit your résumé along with a brief introduction outlining your relevant experience, skills, and familiarity with fabric cutting or similar production work.

Candidates with strong transferable skills and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply!

Pay: $21.00-$24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
