As an Industrial Design Technologist, you will work with the Director, Industrial Design & Transportation to transform design concepts into practical, manufacturable, and technically feasible solutions for transportation equipment, specialized vehicles, and complex products.

You will contribute throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept development and 3D modelling to technical documentation, prototyping, integration, and production support. You will coordinate with industrial designers, engineers, suppliers, manufacturers, and other project stakeholders to ensure that components and systems work together effectively.

This role is well suited to someone who is technically curious, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and able to balance design intent, engineering requirements, manufacturing constraints, and user needs.

Key responsibilities

- Develop, modify, and maintain complex 3D models, surfaces, components, and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Translate industrial design concepts into practical, technically feasible, and manufacturable solutions.
- Produce accurate technical drawings, assembly documentation, manufacturing files, and other production deliverables.
- Design components with consideration for manufacturing processes, assembly requirements, serviceability, tooling, and technical constraints.
- Coordinate interfaces between mechanical systems, electrical components, vehicle interiors, equipment, and surrounding assemblies.
- Collaborate with industrial designers, engineers, manufacturers, and suppliers to resolve design and integration challenges.
- Manage design changes, revisions,

and configuration updates while maintaining alignment with project requirements.
- Support design reviews, prototype development, testing, evaluation, manufacturing readiness, and production activities.
- Research materials, components, manufacturing processes, and emerging technologies to improve product performance and manufacturability.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of design methods, product development processes, and documentation standards.

What We’re Looking For

Education

- Degree, diploma, or technical training in Industrial Design, Industrial Design Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in product development, industrial design, technical design, or a related discipline.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modelling, complex assemblies, surfacing, technical drawings, and design modifications.
- Experience working in a Product Data Management environment, preferably SolidWorks PDM.
- Strong knowledge of product development and design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Experience designing injection-moulded plastic components, including tooling and manufacturing considerations.
- Knowledge of metal component and assembly design, including sheet metal, fabricated structures, welded assemblies, and extrusions.

- Experience coordinating complex assemblies and integrating mechanical systems, electrical interfaces, wiring, routing, and mounting requirements.
- Fluency in French and English, spoken and written, with the ability to communicate with clients, suppliers, manufacturers, and project stakeholders in both languages.

Assets :

- Experience in transportation, rail, public transit, specialized vehicles, commercial vehicles, industrial equipment, or a related industry.
- Experience supporting prototype development, testing, manufacturing, and production activities.
- Knowledge of KeyShot for rendering and visualization.

How You Work

- You are organized and detail-oriented, and you maintain control of multiple priorities and project deliverables.
- You take initiative, work independently, and apply sound technical judgment when resolving issues.
- You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with technical, operational, and external stakeholders.
- You approach complex electrical and automation problems with a practical and solutions-oriented mindset.
- You maintain a strong safety and quality focus in office, manufacturing, field, and customer environments.
- You adapt effectively to changing project requirements and remain skilled under pressure.

Working Conditions

- Full-time position (40 hours per week).
- Monday to Friday schedule.
- On-site presence required at the CRWS Montréal office.
- Occasional site visits to client facilities and manufacturing locations.
- Limited travel may be required depending on project needs.
- Flexibility may be required during critical project phases.
