Director of Professional Development
Location: Downtown Toronto, Ontario

About the Role
Our client, a public accounting firm in downtown Toronto, is looking for a Director of Career development to lead the firm in applying accounting, assurance, and professional standards and to build and run a firm-wide learning program. Directors are firm leaders who reinforce a culture of quality, integrity, and ethical behavior, where team success matters more than individual success.

Responsibilities

- Develop, document, and maintain firm standards, policies, and procedures, and oversee templates and guidance that help staff meet professional standards
- Run the firm’s monitoring program, review files after issuance, and report results to the Management Committee
- Deal with outside regulators (e.g., CPAB, CPAO Practice Inspection)
- Consult with professionals and clients on assurance and accounting matters, and perform pre-release quality control reviews of selected engagement files




- Plan and oversee in-house training, assess individual training needs, and build personal training plans linked to performance evaluations
- Coach Principals, Associate Partners, and other staff
- Oversee the CPA training program and adherence to CPAO Practical Experience Requirements (PER)
- Manage technical resources and guidance materials
- Contribute to the firm’s strategic plan and support integration of merged or acquired practices
- Represent the firm at networking events

Qualifications

- CPA designation
- 10+ years of public practice or equivalent experience, preferably in a mid-sized accounting firm
