Job Overview We are seeking a professional and organized Legal Assistant/Receptionist/Paralegal to join our small client-focused family law firm.
As a referral-based practice without a public website or street signage, we pride ourselves on discretion and prioritize delivering reliable, high-quality legal service over the number of files handled at one time.
Step into a dynamic legal workplace where professionalism, leadership, and empathy guide everything we do. Legal experience is an asset but not required.
We’re looking for a detail-oriented support professional, assigned to one family lawyer, who can navigate filing systems and software—Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat—with ease. In this role, you will:
- Maintain consistent document formatting.
- Manage scheduling and correspondence.
- Assemble, organize, and maintain documents.
- Balance multiple tasks and prioritize shifting deadlines.
- Follow up on tasks to keep projects on track.
- Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Uphold business professional attire standards.
- Communicate confidently and professionally, both in person and over the phone.
Responsibilities
- Greet clients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy, managing front desk operations effectively.
- Perform data entry tasks accurately within file management systems.
- Support with document preparation, proofreading, and/or legal drafting tasks.
- Organize and maintain filing systems both electronically and physically,
ensuring easy retrieval of documents.
- Coordinate appointments, interviews, and meetings.
- Assist with project management tasks related to case files or administrative tasks.
- Perform various administrative tasks such as distributing invoices, and collecting and processing payment.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information at all times.
Requirements :
- Proven clerical or administrative experience in a professional setting, preferably within a legal environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent writing skills with attention to detail and formatting for proofreading legal documents and correspondence.
- Attentive interpersonal skills for client interaction.
- Familiarity with Alberta family law terminology and procedures and/or Childview is a plus but not required.
- Strong organizational skills to handle filing systems and document management effectively.
This role is essential to the smooth operation of our small office and requires a poised, dedicated, and self-directed individual. Guidance and training are offered to familiarize you with the role, expectations, and responsibilities of the position.
Applications must include a cover letter. If you hold a Commissioner for Oaths certificate, please be sure to indicate this in your submission.
Pay: $42,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
Benefits :
- On-site parking
- Paid time off
Work Location: In person
